Here is what i get on speed tests..

:::.. Upload Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 662 Kbps about 0.7 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)

Upload Speed is:: 81 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (main)

Thank you so much for the response. Ive downloaded file, then extracted and opened. It opened in the "cablenut" program i downloaded earlier, with a few choices. One of which was "Save to registry", which i did. It said successfuly saved to registry, but i must be missing something cause it didnt seem to do anything for the download test.:

Is there something im doing wrong possibly? The cablenut program has some OS choices, but xp-pro is not one of them. It says 2000.

Thanks so much again

Yes, I did reboot and it was close to before, but not quite where it should be i think. The upload test seems to be very good, just download is where its not using full potential possibly.

well, thanks for all the suggestions, not sure what problem is, maybe a Comcast issue. I cannot seem to get the download above the 50 to 60 range. Ive run adaware, i used the SG TCP Optimizer, EvID4226Patch.exe, and used the file suggested above with cablenut program. Thanks for all your assistance. Much appreciated.

hey emjrc and welcome to the forum :)

i think your router messing up your MTU

bypass router and connect direct to modem via ethernet, set your MTU to 1500 in TCP Optimizer, click apply and reboot

now make a new speed and tweaktest http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

when you get result, copy whole URL adress and paste it here

I changed MTU to 1500 in TCP Optimizer, click apply and reboot. Did not seem to have any effect. Could it be the modem? The modem is about maybe 6 years old. Toshiba PCX1100

The Motorola 5100/5120 modem is a good choice.

From what I understand, is the the 5100 is the retail model, and the 5120 was the model that was sold directly to the isp and they will either lease it or re-sell it.

So I believe they are actually one in the same.

Do these look about right?..Or should i do some more tweaking?

I would suggest adding the Toshiba PCX1100 modem to your list of Modems that possibly should be upgraded.

Thanks for all the help.

And i also ran this program, and left fields all blank. I didnt seem to make a difference when i entered MTU 1500.

Also, router has setting for MTU 1500, which is enabled.

Good eye, pr0duc3r.

I'm guessing that means his switch is set at half-duplex?

Will that make a difference when conducting a downstream speed test?

emjrc, if your still connected to your router, make sure your NIC is set to 100mbps/Full Duplex. ( that is assuming that your router has a 10/100 switch built in)

I have 2 routers, neither gives me the option to adjust that within the router.(unless I missed it somewhere)

nothing i do seems to change these factors..

MTU = 1372

MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput.

MSS = 1332

MSS is not fully optimized for broadband (although it might work well for slower connections). Consider increasing your MTU value.

Your screen-shot earlier showed the MTU field blank.

Is that where you entered 1500 and hit apply?

yes, i tried entering 1500...no changes..

does anyone have any ideas as to why my mtu number will not change from 1372?

ive tried disconnecting from router, thought that was the issue, but nothing.

Is there a way i can just edit/add directly in registry?
