Hi, I am from India

Can you help me make my internet faster ? Here are the details...

- Just formatted my hard disc and installed xp pro and updated to sp2

-got the p2p fix u suggested in the sticky post

-i have a 40 kbps connection. i get my internet through a cable wire that goes in my LAN card (Digi-5700 TX)

-my download speeds fluctuate between 2.5 kbps to 5 kbps (they remain same throughout the day, even at late night)

Here is my download test result..

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 33 Kbps about 0 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)

Download Speed is:: 4 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2)

Test Time:: Thu Jun 9 15:09:34 UTC+0530 2005

Bottom Line:: 1X faster than 56K 1MB download in 256 sec

Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 67.35 % of your hosts average (7starnet.com)

Here is the tracert test log....

Thanks Van,

The download test that i posted before, would have been at my default settings itself as i had just clean installed xp (without trying any tweaks).

I recently changed my ISP. Prevously i had the same advertised speeds of 40 kbps on a different ISP. i got 3 kbps dl speeds then too. But i had succesfully tweaked it to 8 kbps. The thing is i dont know what worked then ,as i had used loads of defferent tweaks and tweaking softwares.

Pls just try and increase my download speeds

Its not dial up. As i said, i live india :D, faster speeds are not affordable by the common man  :(.

Here is what you asked for

TCP options string = 020405b401010402

MTU = 1500

MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460

Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 1460

RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 0 bits

Unscaled Receive Window = 1460

RWIN is a multiple of MSS

Other values for RWIN that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)

256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4)

128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 58.4 kbps (7.3 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 23.36 kbps (2.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

Consider increasing your RWIN value to optimize TCP/IP for broadband.

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 117 hops

TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

Just hoping you guys can increase my download speeds

I did click save to registry

when i opened the file you gave me, only 2 boxes got filled ,

GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize : 8760

TCPWindowSize: 8760

the default recieve window was still blank

i dont think so i am behind a proxy..how to check that?

              This is the test on my OS notice the difference in the Default Receive Window (RWIN).

TCP options string = 020405b40103030101010402

MTU = 1500

MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 5139.2 kbps (642.4 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 2055.68 kbps (256.96 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 118 hops

TTL value is ok.

Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 01011100 (92)

Precedence (priority) = 010 (immediate)

Delay = 1 (low delay)

Throughput = 1 (high throughput)

Reliability = 1 (high reliability)

Cost = 0 (normal cost)

Check bit = 0 (correct, 8th checking bit must be zero)

DiffServ (RFC 2474) = No valid DiffServ equivalent. See RFCs 2474, 2475, 2597, 2598, 2873.

leave the default recieve window blank, thats a AFD parameter and will do more harm then good, on your low bandwidth

if your behind a proxy server, the analyzer will not read your PC

hanifv: I would leave the 8760 in GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize : 8760 &TCPWindowSize: 8760

& put 8760 in Default Receive Window (RWIN).Save to registry with Cablenut & reboot.Test it again.

I personally like a larger RWIN I would also try this setting & see which one worked the best for you. Put 64240 in a 3 settings in Cablenut save & reboot.

Edit Van Buren said to leave the Default Receive Window blank so try it both ways with & without  a setting.The speed test will tell you which works best.

when i start any downloads, the speeds sometimes are like 20 kbps but then they come down to the usual 3.5-5.5 kbps

Thanks for all your help Van

btw, i just tried TCP/IP optimiser, set it at cable modem optimal settings

here is the speed test

Connection is:: 46 Kbps about 0 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)

the settings included : TCP windowsize and globalMaxTcpwindowsize  set at 256960 and also quite a few other changes

i really hope it could touch 8 kbps atleast

here is the tcp/ip test after using the optimizer....

TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

MTU = 1500

MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

MSS = 1460

Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

Default Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960

RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits (scale factor of 4)

Unscaled Receive Window = 64240

128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

64240 (MSS x 44)

bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

Your RcvWindow limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

Time to live left = 53 hops

TTL value is ok.

IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00000000 (0)

hanifv: That should work aparently you have window scaling enabled.With your connection I doubt if it will ever exceed the unscaled RWIN which is 64240 .It would only use the next scale if you received a page larger than 64240.The only thing I would do is try a larger test at testmy.net like the medium test.If you are going to use TCPIP optimizer you might try deleting the Cablenut settings by leaving all the Cablenut settings blank & saving to registry then reboot & test.That should eliminate conflict with TCPIP optimizer if there is any.If this causes a slowdown put the cablenut settings back in.
