msconfig startup entries should NOT affect any of your svchosts.

msconfig startup entries are simply programs that will start as windows loads and starts per YOUR profile.

It takes toying with .ini files on msconfig to affect your services,

In the future, you should only enable/disable stuff on the "startup" tab, on msconfig.

I keep my startup tab COMPLETELY empty. NOTHING starts up.

WinXP sits and runs idle at about 67MB's of page, instead of about 200.

I also have the "performance" settings at optimal performance and this helps.

i have really had to scale everything back in a major way to get to 67MB's

xp looks like NT, NO desktop background, set to black, no active desktop,

only see the time in the taskbar. I also keep a fresh update/scan for all

malware, spyware, etc, and keep my cache/trash on the pc to a minimum.

NONE Of this is automated, i tend to do it all first thing when i get on the pc

daily, then proceed with my entertainment. Also, on my computers properties,

in the performance section, disable all the stuff that is unnecessary, like animated page shifts,

translucent drag and drop, who needs that, unless your an eye candy junky.

I have had a 15% increase in my FPS during gaming, 10% less load on the processor, and a CONSIDERABLE drop in memory usage.

alot of the virus/firewall stuff is on my slackware server, so it's before the client, so i don't have to have stuff such as zonealarm or NLS running.

I have virus protection, just not in real time, or what not, i know how to get a virus if i want one, simple to task to scan, and update definitions, anyhow, again, there is antivirus on my slackware server.

I just do silly eccentric things because i have 24 hours a day to waste, and need a challenge.
