Reboot and choose #1 for support for CD rom and try again.

If you only have the one H.D. and only 1 partition on that H.D. then the Cd rom should be on E:

Windows 98 has detected that drive c does not cotain a valid FAT or FAT32 partition . There are several possible causes.

1. This drive may need to be partitioned on the drive, run FDISK from MS-DOS command prompt.

2. You may be using third-party disk-partitioning software, If you are using this type of software, remove the Emergancy BOOT Disk and restart your computer from a floppy disk.

3. Some viruses also cause your drive c to not register. You can use a virus scanning program to check your computer for viruses.

sounds like the partition didn't take for some reason.

Were you able to delete the partition earlier ?

And after restart did you go to fdisk again and setup a new partition ?

at 1st it didnt. now it did

OK now try from this point.

at the C: prompt type" md win98 "and hit enter.

Then at the C: prompt type CD E: that will bring up the cd rom, now at the E: prompt type CD win98 that will bring up the win98 folder then type" copy *.* C:win98 " and hit enter, when it's done you can take the cd out of the drive and the floppy out and restart the PC.

This time it will boot to the C: prompt without the boot disk.

Just type CD win98 and then type" setup /ie /iv " and hit enter.

That should get it going,

I know this seems quite complicated and a hassle but it's not that bad, and it will be better than just using the CD rom to load the OS,

When I type "CD E:" at C: prompt, it just does the same thing goes to C:>

C:>          (skip the E:> )

Hit Ctrl/alt/del at the same time and that should restart your PC and boot up and make sure you choose 1 for support cd rom and try again.at the C: prompt try to just type E: then enter then type cd win98 and go from there

I did this now it went to" E:"  typed in "cd win98" it said invalid directory

this is kind of scary because there should be 101 files but we'll see what happens.

I may be wrong here , but it sounds like you don't have a complete win98 cd or it has to be setup before burning like a .rar file or something like that.

If you want I could send you a copy over AIM I would just send the cab files zipped into a win98 folder and it would probably be about 120 MB
