MYRIAGON Posted July 22, 2005 CID Share Posted July 22, 2005 I understand that you are running upload on one PC and download on the other but you still might want to check the NIC and see what the speed is set to on both PC's just remember where they are set at now so you can put them back if you have to. Try different settings and see if makes a difference. I would think with the type of connection you have they shoud be at 100/Full Duplex. Also I'm not really sure if the router being set to a MTU of 1492 if the OS should be set the same or not, but you could get DrTcp and set the MTU to 1492 manually with that since WinXP defaults at 1500 I really don't have much else to offer, I hope something here helps. We made sure my router was in 100 mb/s full duplex. We disconnected the router and set a direct connect to my pc. Used a program called Dr. TCP changed my tcp recieve window settings to 307824, window scaling "yes", mtu 1492 etc. Nothing works. He tried to say maybe my pc cpu cant handle it so I told him I would upload on one pc and do the test on my other and still get the same results. Finally after all that he came to the conclusion that it must be there network doing it and if he ever hears of any solution he personally will contact me and let me know. So anotherwards if I use half my upload cap I only get half my download. If I use All my download I get no upload. If I use all my upload I get no download and so on and so on. Also said something like it might be some kind of security feature they do to make sure I'm not like a server or something like that cause I'm on residential package. Ill tell you what I'm sure plenty of people think I shouldn't complain cause of my speeds are so good but I dint think Its fair that I cant multitask. In all actuality I can only download at 15 and upload at 2 at the same time. I think in this case I should only pay $50 like the 15/2 package!!!! Where's all the FIOS guys ? I'm somewhat curious if the same is happening on the 15/2 Pkg. Well..... just keep bugging them and you are bound to get someone who knows what's up, even if it's not what you want to hear at least you would know, and then you could decide what you want to do.. VanBuren Posted July 23, 2005 CID Share Posted July 23, 2005 with the TCP protocol you get problems like this i suggest you download www.netlimiter.com and set uploadrate at 90% of your cap, that should help your downloadspeed alot when your uploading at same time. there is no way to hit cap both upstream and downstream at the very same time, even if you have full duplex, that is limited by the way TCP protocol is built.
