They just break Lee Also they have awireless router at compusa for @$59.00 after rebates with the "Wireless N"I would pick that up if the sale did not end. Voltageman Posted December 23, 2005 CID Share Posted December 23, 2005 I have the Fios 30/5, and after trying several different routers, we finally broke down and got the verizon suppled d-link 624(w/ the verizon firmware). So far its the only router we have tried that gets full speed, and does not crash if more than one person gets on the network... So far I haven't had to touch the router in a month...The Netgear we tried would get full speeds, but would crash constantly(and since their tech support said they would call me back and never did, we returned it) And if I remember correctly, the d-link 604 should have been free with your install...The 624 they charge for...But so far its been worth it.. Also, check your router for the SPI(stateful packet inspection), should be under firewall settings...Try to disable it, and re-run the speed tests...The Netgear would only get around 18,000kbps with it on, yet would get 29,900kbps with it off.... I have D-Link DI-524 wireless G router and it works great. I got for $20 with a rebate. Your upload is a little sluggish. I have a wrt54gs and have 2 boxes, 2computer hooked up both wired and wireless. The one xbox is wireless through a WGS54GA gaming adapter and damn I always get full signal strenght. I recommend them because the support is so damn good and everybody and their grandparents know something about tweaking them. I hope this helps. The bottom line is that Verizon has only been telling people that the D-Link was the only router that could be used with the service. They cut a deal for some really cheap routers and then made a few software adjustments in the firmware to allow them to troubleshoot. However, as anyone on here should know, Verizon is completely clueless as to the operational aspects of this new fiber, or it's characteristics. They never even mastered the DSL. The simple truth is this, it does not matter what brand of router you use. I hooked my 30/5 connection up to my Netgear FSV 328 router which the connects into my garage to a Netgear 10/100 DS108 Switch which then disperses the B/W on demand through the house in any of the 10 RJ-45 ports I had installed. Additionally, since my family also use a total of four notebooks I used on of the eight LAN ports from the 328 to connect to a WAP54 (I'm not positive about that Linksys AP without getting up) but to a Linksys G Type Access point to tap into the LAN and the Fios for the Laptops and they all worked perfectly. The only change required to the router was a change to type of connection protocol required and the connection was fine, the wireless was just as uneventful other than setting the security up on the AP, theses days you need the max. TKIP Shared Key- at least. Lastly to the "customer", I would recommend against buying a Linksys Router or AP, the reason is that they are the cheapest you can get and therefore, likely the only kind in your neighborhood. If you ever have to setup your router or AP from scratch again all of those unsecured routers, most named "Linksys" will interfere with your ability to set up. There is still a problem with the backup battery they could not solve .... But I have another one. Since the guy did not want to run a cat5 cable into the attic, through the attic and down into the office (second floor) we decided to place the wireless D-link router in the garage where the cable comes into the house. I have a laptop that connects to the D-Link router without problems using a very cheap Airlink adapter. My desktop PC uses a Linksys USB adapter and I cannot get this adapter connected to the D-Link. I have no clue why. I tried all settings. So I tried to use my Linksys 54G router (which I used for DSL before) instead of the D-Link. But that router somehow does not want to connect to the internet. Maybe it is the setting of the Linksys router. Does anybody know what the setup on the router connected to the FIOS has to be? The guy from Verizon did not leave me any notes when he setup the D-Link modem. It seems to be PPPoE but the username and PSW he configured is not the one I have with Verizion. Anyhow to make a short story long: D-Link only works with Laptop Airlink adapter Linksys adapter can connect to the Linksysrouter but that router cannot connect to the internet. I even tried to daisychain them by plugging the Linksys router into one of the LAN ports of the D-Link. This does not work either. Any ideas here? And another thing I don't like is the speed. I ordered 15/2 and I getting less than 1MB down. Tests have shown as less than 970kB/s. Is this an account problem. If this does not change in the next days I am back to DSL. Thanks so far. It is an HP with a 3GHz Pentim and 512MB. Getting up to 12Mbps. Connected wireless. Not the 15Mbps but a lot faster than the Laptop. The Laptop is a Dell. Since it is my company Laptop I am not sure about the processor. But I think it has only 128MB. Maybe 256. I have to check. Anyhow is there a way to tune my desktop to get the full speed? 12Mbps is not bad. Better than what I had before with DSL. For the same price. But 15Mbps would be better.
