I have cable internet and i was wondering if my long cable from the back of my house to the front over the roof is creating my poor connection. I running at less then half my advertised speed. I think the cable is a 50 foot one.

I've used a 50 foot cable before. My speeds were consistantly great. I wasn't on a splitter either. I don't know if you are, but that could cause problems in some instances. If you have a seperate wall jack, you should try running a shorter cable from there straight to the modem. You will receive better signals which, in turn, could increase your speed.

Be sure that the cable you're using is at least RG6 certified. Some people use RG5, but too thin a cable will not be able to handle the high speed signal, resulting in slow speeds.

No it's coaxil cable. it goes from the back alley to a splitter then a 50 foot coaxil cord to my modem. Advertised 5000kbts.

A few other questions What does the cable from the splitter that is not connected to your modem go to?

Is the splitter for television signal?I also would use as good a cable as I could get to run over a roof .Can you find a better route? At least under the house eves to protect the cable as much as possible.
