cable modem

I'm not sure what modem you should get since I'm on Comcast, but I don't think you need a separate line all the way from the poll. I have a Motorola SB-4220.

When my 'net was put in, they kept it at one line from the pole to the house. They put a 3-splitter 2 TV's and net on it, with a "fancy" splitter on it and ran a whole separate cable line from the splitter to the cable modem.

I say "fancy, because this is one of those splitters that are hard to find in stores. It had three connections with one at a separate Db level for the modem. They also put amps (I think) on the TV lines.

cable has finally come to rural vermont what cable modem and any other tips on installation would best suit an adalphia connection,  Ive heard dual lines from the pole work better, one for cable tv one for high speed internet any advise?

I did some travel work a few years back and was in vermont a while. What part are you in. I forget the city I was in, it was little and had a prison right next to a state nursing home. Alot of covered bridges and a big bridge right downtown that was under construction at the time. It was a beautiful area. :D

I agree, Motorola makes a good modem.

You can buy the newest one (SB5120) for ~$79.99 at most stores. Example

You won't need a separate line from the pole unless the local cable co designed their plant different than the norm.

Where I live, US West built a cable system back in the mid 90's, it is now Qwest Telechoice.

They have a dual plant system, twin cables, amplifiers, etc. throughout there system.

In this case, there is a separate line for data, but as far as I know, this may be the only exception to the normal design.
