I Want My Connection Faster!

Well I just got Cox few days ago and pretty satisfied with its speed. I was wondering though, if it could be a bit faster. I'm on the 5/2 plan.

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 5581 Kbps about 5.6 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

Download Speed is:: 681 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2)

Test Time:: Mon Aug 29 20:08:01 EDT 2005

Bottom Line:: 100X faster than 56K 1MB download in 1.5 sec

Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 48.31 % faster than the average for host (Cox.net)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-2RN1KMSZX

That's about my average download speed, sometimes faster, but the thing likes to freeze on me sometimes. :roll:

:::.. Upload Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 1219 Kbps about 1.2 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB)

Upload Speed is:: 149 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2)

Test Time:: Mon Aug 29 2005 20:04:07 GMT-0400 (Eastern Standard Time)

Bottom Line:: 22X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 6.87 sec

Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 133.52 % faster than the average for host (Cox.net)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-TFN64Z0JS

Upload is where the problem is. The first day I got Cox it was about 1644Kbps. Still wasn't 2Mbps, but now it got slower. A Cablenut file would help. One just for me! I looked through VanBuren's folder, but there was no file for 5/2Mbps Cable. I could use some help. :D Thanks guys!

Edit: Here's my results without the CableNut tweaks. Forget to mention with the results above I used Verizon Fios PPPoE 5000/2000 custom file. Umm yeah I don't know if I have DHCP or PPPoE. Not really sure what they are. :haha: But here are the results:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Cool cool. Yeah I think the download is pretty good too. Is Kol really only 8? If he is, he's pretty smart for an 8 year old. I'm only 13. Hmm I can't tell if you're joking or not. God if he's not 8 then I'm really gullible... But my upload speed still isnt good enough yet! :evil6:

No, he says he's 13, but he acts like he's 8.

I would try testing at a time when not many other people would be on (I don't know if it matters or not with DSL). Try around 1-4 in the morning. I could be wrong, but your speeds-- including upload-- should be faster. That way you know that you can reach your advertised speeds, if you can't get the upload up all the way, I'm sure there's some more tweaking you can do.

man u guys are lucky

all i got is a single dsl line split along 25 people

And all I have is a shitty satelite that costs $60 per month, I can only download 169 mb per 4 hours or else they'll drop me down to 20 kb/s, and I can't use it when it storms.

I consider you lucky.

Don't "screw" around with it. Most likely you'll just slow down your internet connection.

5.6 down on a 5/2 plan is pretty damn good. I doubt you'll get any faster.

I agree, what you can try is increasing the DefaultSendWindow

load the verizon 5/2 DHCP fios file and just change DefaultSendWindow from 128000 to 256000

now click save to registry and reboot

also if you have a router, set your NIC to 100 Mbps full duplex

if you connect direct to modem, try 10 Mbps half duplex

:D!!! Tried the DefaultSendWindow thing and it helped, but where do I find the NIC? It's not on CableNut is it? Thank you!

great :)

here is a guide how to set NIC

http://dslnuts.com/tips_tricks.shtml

quote

"HOW TO SET THE PROPER NIC DUPLEX SETTINGS:

Win98/ME: to change to half-duplex:

* Open Control Panel.

* Double-click Network.

* From the scrollable list, select your Ethernet adapter (rather than any dial-up) with a green icon.

* Click the button Properties.

* Click the tab Advanced to bring it to the front:

* In the Property box, the property name to be selected varies according to model of ethernet card. Examples are: Network Link Selection, Media Type, Connection Type, Duplex Mode, or any similarly-named property which can have Values looking like Auto-Negotiation, or 10BT, or 10BaseT.

* In the Value box, select a value which either (a) explicitly says half-duplex or semi-duplex, or (B) at least does not say full-duplex [e.g. 10BaseT on its own is OK]. If there is a choice between 10 and 100 with half-duplex, choose the 10. Do not choose 10Base5, 10Base2, or AUI.

* Click OK to exit the Adapter settings.

* Click OK all the way out - you might need to restart.

Windows 2000 or XP: to change to half-duplex:

* Open Control Panel.

* Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections.

* Identify the icon for your cable modem connection: usually Local Area Connection.

* Right-click that icon and select Properties.

* Under the ethernet adapter icon, click the button Configure.

* Click OK to exit the Adapter settings.

* Click OK to exit the Connection properties."

I tried changing my NIC. First I tried 100 Mbps full duplex and I didn't see very much of an improvement. I think Auto Detect seems the best for me. After I tried 100 Mbps full duplex though I tried the rest! :haha:

I'm not sure if it'll go any higher. That upload speed seems pretty good to me, but if you guys want to help me more to get it closer to 2 MB then feel free. :D
