:? hi all,

im supposed to be getting 2mb download speed and 250kb upload speed from ntl in england

in the past its been registering as that speed or near enough, but now its only running at 128 down and 14 up!!!!

last time this happened i rang my isp and they kept telling me my cnnection was fine and it must be something else like spyware or mcaffee.

i downloaded a  lot of programs for finding spyware/malware/trojans etc : these are the prgrams ive used

spybot

adaware se

spywareblaster

mozilla

microsoft antispyware

cwsshredder

about buster

xclean micro

last time i couldnt find any spyware or all of it so i downloaded the prgrams above and used them and they found more things and once id removed them all my speeds went bak to normal

i also removed mcaffe just incase it was that aswell

but now i hav the problem again and none of the programs can find anything and there all fully updated

im now using symantec/norton anti virus corporate edition v9.0.2.1000

can anyone please help me fiond out why its so slow please?

yeah if you live in england there's a long way to go to testmy.net servers thats why you get bad speeds, try to run a test on a server from england and post what you get.

in that case...are you connecting through a router or directly to your computer..through ethernet or usb?

did you try any tweaks yet like cablenut, make sure all your cables are plugged in (or screwed in) tightly, try powercycling your modem, if non of those work than try cablenut with vanburens settings, they work very well for most of people
