WTF???

I need some help badly. I am pretty new to computers and I just bought one last month.

Processor: intel pentium D processor 820

Memory/Storage:1 GB DDR2 SDRAM/250 GB S-ATA 7200 hard drive

Graphics Card: GeForce 6200 GPU with Nvidia Turbocache(256 mb)

Optical Drives: Dual layer DVD+RW DVD-ROM

I bought this computer mainly fo playing MMOFPS(massive,multiplayer,online,first,person,shooters) and of course the internet. Everything was fine until i tested my connection speed. My connection is cable, the fastest one from Rogers. It's called Extreme, it says on the box 5.0 Mbps. so i tested it and got some pretty crappy results. But remember I'm a n00b, so i might have done something wrong.

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 564 Kbps about 0.6 Mbps (tested with 748 kB)

Download Speed is:: 69 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2)

Test Time:: Thu Sep 29 19:49:39 EDT 2005

Bottom Line:: 10X faster than 56K 1MB download in 14.84 sec

Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 21.41 % of your hosts average (rogers.com)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9JQDGHF45

Everytime i check it seems to be getting slower. I would really appreciate some guides or tips.

Thank you for your time

What do you mean "on the box"??  Are you talking about on the cable modem box?  If so, then let me guess its a motorola and your seeing a 5x (seen some boxes say 20x) thing on the box itself.  If thats what it is then thats not your speed at all.  Its a technology in the modem called TurboDOX that "could" make it 5x faster than without it.  Call Rogers and verify what package you got then go from there.

Which service here do you have?

http://www.shoprogers.com/store/cable/InternetContent/internet.asp

On the tweak test you put 5.0 for kB/s, but if you have a 5 mega-byte connection; you would want to plug in 5000 for kB/s. It's alright though, we were all noobs at one time. It definitley looks like you have the extreme service with your upload speed, hmm.

Looking at your tracert it seems your problem is on the route to Testmy.net.  Try a speed test on a few of the download mirrors and see if you get different results. Also try more speed tests here at different times of day, if you can.

Run the tweak test again at broadbandreports and plug in 6000 where it says Speed (advertised) kbit/s:

He doesn't have to run it again. you can change the 'Speed (advertised) kbit/s' then hit 'recommend' and it will recalculate the results. BTW the Ttester results look good.
