New hard drive, slower speed.. what happened?

The hard drive on my 16 mo. old P4 desktop failed a week or so ago, and I had a technician install a new one. Simultaneously, I was under the impression that my broadband provider (Comcast) increased the speed on the connection to 6 mb/384 kbps. I installed Cablenut again, but the speed seems off and inconsistent. Here's the today's speed test:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 4085 Kbps about 4.1 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB)

Download Speed is:: 499 kB/s

Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2)

Test Time:: Mon Oct 10 08:25:56 PDT 2005

Bottom Line:: 73X faster than 56K 1MB download in 2.05 sec

Diagnosis: 90% + Okay : running at 93.48 % of your hosts average (comcast.net)

Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-WD4T75USO

I'm running Win 2K on my AMD 64 machine. Only software installed is Office XP, Goldmine, Thunderbird (email) and of course, Spyware Blaster, Ad Aware SE and Crap Cleaner.. Any ideas?

hey jontalk :)

i agree, cablenut is a bit tricky to use.

if your on 6 Mbps package try this ( i assume you downloaded version 7 of my tweaks )

browse to the path where you unzipped my settings eg

E:VanBurens_cablenut_settings_version_7_ALL_WIN_OS_AND_SAT

find this folder

CABLE_DSL_FIBER_DIAL-UPWinXP_2K_CABLE_DSLMSS1460

dubbleclick on the file Cable & DSL 6000 768.ccs

now you see alot of values in cablenut adjuster, click "save to registry"

reboot PC and test speed

Thanks, but I don't see any folder named: Cable & DSL 6000 768.ccs

There are several folders and the one for cable is the one I opened.. There seem to be about four settings and I opened the first one, which is the fast 2K, or something like that.. I saved those changes to the registry already, so not sure where to go from there..
