When I connect directly (without router) I get the advertized speeds. With the router I get about 2mb/s less on the downloads and 20kb/s less upload. :::.. By diagnosing the modem it does say 100BaseTX. Firewall on router is enabled although disabling it doesnt do anything for throughput. Help please!! dn0 Posted October 9, 2005 CID Share Posted October 9, 2005 Hey VictorS - First, are you running through a wired or wireless router (I'm assuming wired). Second, is it a 10/100 switch? If so, verify that ALL links are running 100mbps. You can manually force them to 100mbps if you have to. I am asking this because if your link is set back to 10mbps somewhere in the route, you will not easily achieve above 7mbps. When the link is set to 10mbps, the ethernet overhead will limit your true connection to about 7mbps, which is where you are with the router. Verify that and let us know. VictorS Posted October 9, 2005 Author CID Share Posted October 9, 2005 Hey thanks for the quick response.. - Yes I have a Belkin wired router - My PC is set to 100mb/s full duplex (was at auto sense before I started tinkering) - On my previous 5000/768 I was right on the cap - Latest router firmware installed - Setting to 10mb/s doesnt make a difference Question tho...how can I force the router to accept 100mb/s? dn0 Posted October 9, 2005 CID Share Posted October 9, 2005 I guess I am thinking on the cable modem side, the older modems with 10mbps WAN ports can't pull much over 7mbps no matter what the downstream cap is set to. AND, if I thought about it, I pull about 9.5 on my home network when transfering. Victor, what model is your Belikin router? I have 2 routers, one Microsoft MN-500 (I think) it has a 10/100 switch, BUT the WAN port is only 10mbps. My other router is a D-Link DI-524, and its WAN port is 10/100 selectable.
