Recommended Posts

I know I've posted this in All Dial-Up ~ but most people arn't gonna venture 'way down yonder' to see it ~ so I'm posting it again, here.

My hard drive is partioned 3 ways; C Drive; D Drive; and E Drive;

C Drive was partioned for the 'Family Accounts'

If you were using a nic to connect to comcast, try disabling the local connection then try to make a new connection using Add a connection in "network Connections".  Also, check in Device Manager under modems to see if there might be a conflict with your modem and another piece of hardware (there will be a yellow or red mark beside the modem listing).  You could try deleting the modem from Device manager, then reboot to have xp reinstall it then try to make the connection.

cak46 ; everything with the modem is fine.

I did dis-able the local connection for Comcast.

It's just that when I try to make a 'new' connection w/ Network Connections or Network Connection Wizard ~ it won't let me 'click on' the add/make new connection - it's kinda whited out.

So, I think it has to be some setting in the Registry ~ anyone know where I could look for the 'Network Connections' or 'Wizard' in the Registry - or what they would be called?

could be a setting in the group policy.

-click start, run

-type: gpedit.msc and click ok

-under the local computer policy heading, expand user configuration

-expand administrative templates

-expand network

-select network connections

-locate the setting called prohibit access to the new connection wizard and configure accordingly (ie. disable)

damn rom-dos...why on earth did u mess with ur settings...when u had such great dialup speeds...

It's the thrill of the chase!

When it comes to computers, I've never agreed with the philosophy of "if'n it ain't broke, don't fix it"

I say: "If it ain't broke, mess with it until it is broke, then format and reinstall"

well, besides bein' the idiot that I am ~ I was trying to connect from myE:Drive ~ where I have another bootable Win XP installed ~ just for me and my on-line gaming.

I did change all my settings, though ~ had to turn off MS MCCP software compression and go with modom hardware compression. . . .so my speeds are like 'normal' now (at least on my E:Drive)

what's really strange, now - is Web pages load alot faster!

so, I guess there are pros and cons with software vs. hardware compression!
