I'm in Toronto and I am getting terrible results with the central server. Completely different from my first series of tests. Did not hit 20Mb/s once. I put a trouble call trough my ISP and i will wait to see what they can fiddle with before doing more tests. i still don't get it though. I want to believe that testing here is accurate but it makes no sense. As soon as I get a terrible result back, let's say 3Mb/s, I proceed to imediately download a real file, either using IE9 or using torrents and I ALWAYS get over 1 MB/s downloads and even often up to 2MB/s. If the testing is accurate, how do I get these real world download speeds? Problem I am having is with streaming HD videos but not dowloading files.

Will do but I've experienced the same thing on all servers before. I've tried automatic, central and all do the same thing. This is just the first time I tested it so extensively. I'm calling ISP tech support as soon as I get home.

Ok, here is what I did last night: I did a bunch of tests in a row, on laptop, first wired directly to modem and then over WiFi. 25MB test download each time for both. And no, 2 Mb is not a typo, not sarcastic, it actually is really fast even though the test told me 2 seconds eariler that my speed was only 375 Kb/s. With all this though, Netlfix still has a hard time to switch to HD. Does this even make sense that certain things are fast and others are slow? Data is data no?

thanks for the replies guys. i will do some more proper testing as you metionned but playing around some more, here is what I found: And the real kicker is that it seems to do this (probably to a lesser extent) even when pluged directly into the modem, no router involved! I can test a few times in a row and get 21MB/s but then after a while I will get 18 then 14, 11, all the way to 3 (!?). It will pick up again but takes a while. I really need to contact my ISP. What is even weirder is that once I do get a test that says I'm getting 3 MB/s, if I try right away to download a large file, let's say an Nvidia driver (170 Mb or so), I get blazing speeds of over 2 Mb/s. It really seems like the speed depends on what you are asking of the connection. Torrents, although unstable, tend to be very fast most any time. I do have VoIP instead of regular phone so I have no idea if this affects anything. But without the router, VoIP is out of the equation, at least I think...

hello and thanks in advance for the help! I'm posting mostly due to issues I have with speeds on mt Wii U but it seems to apply to my PC also. I'm having no issues on my PC with d/l speeds or streaming anything HD but when I test using testmy.net, within the same minute, I can get about 20Mb/s but also 5-6 Mb/s. I can try it a bunch of times in a row and can see as low as 3-4Mb or even above 20Mb. Wii U seems worse where I often get 2-3 Mb/s but if I try it afew times in a row, I can get 12Mb/s once in a while. What is going on here? i can understand Wii U being slower and it would be just fine if at least it was consistent. Much trouble getting Netflix to stream HD. Even on PC it seems to not want to buffer HD even though speed is sufficiant and that the movie itself is loaded way ahead on the progress bar. I'm on WiFi Thanks
