  2. Yep. In Australia. Its actually ADSL2+ now. My ISP (iiNet - www.iinet.net.au) has uncapped their service to possible cater up to 24Mbps. I'm about 2.1km away from my exchange so I only manage 14Mbps.

    Here's a test from here:

  5. For anyone who isn't familiar with Australian ADSL plans (most of you, I'd assume!) I now have a service which is advertised as "1.5 Mbit per sec, upto 12 Mbit per sec".

My modem syncs at the full 12Mbit rate and on a good local server I download at about 1.3MByte per sec. But to testmy.net I get:

    Not to bad for Australia.

    Edit: Added upload speed.

  8. We'll leave that up to CA3LE to decide.

I can understand if he doesn't want it here. Althought it would seem redundant, as there's a thread on how to burn copyright DVD's. Same difference.

Feel free to delete this post -- if need be, mods.

In the meantime, if anyone wants to point me in the right direction PM me.

    [Edit: typos]

  9. I use DVD Shrink as well. Although if I want to keep the movies quality then I just copy the movie itself, and not all the menus and the special features. Usually when you just copy the movie, you'll have the full quality.

Then once you've only got the movie selected in Re-Authoring mode you can go back and select which audio streams you want. So you can take out unwanted subtitles, and different language audio tracks etc.

    ;)

  10. im in process of converting this .avi to a mpeg2 file - i think the quality will be great (will tell the results) and im using a program called TMPGEnc - it seems good, the only downside to this is that it takes long long loooooooong time to decode an .avi file - its already doing it about 10 hours, got about same amount of time left :)

Yeah. That's the program I use. On my computer for an hour and thirty minute movie takes about 3 hours. From *.avi to *.vob (DVD files).

You might have an older computer?

I have an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ CPU. Of course the CPU isn't the only thing that makes the process time vary. But it's the main thing.  :haha:

  11. If you mean to insert the harddrive from the old computer into your new computer with XP already installed on it, then no. That work work. Because when you install XP on a computer it only loads the drivers needed for the specific motherboard and CPU that you're using. So in short, you need to reinstall XP if that's your case.

If you want to use the same CD for XP then that will be fine. By law, it's not acceptable but your computer still accepts it.

    Hope that helped.
