Thanks Swimmer, I tried everything....but checking the source!!!!! Primary law in electronics. I recycled the modem....and now it works. As far as what I did beforehand....I did everything on "Internet Connection Guide" on this website. If anything....it tooled me with wonderful knowledge the nextime....practice makes perfect. Someone PLEASE help. I purchased a brand new hp Pavillion with Windows XP Pro w/ SP2. I use a cable connection from comcast that works because I'm using it with my old laptop now. I have been trying everything in my power for the last three days to get a valid IP address. I've used every tutorial available including the one this site titled "Cable Internet Connection Guide for Windows XP", I've tried everthing in this guide that corresponded to my situation at least 5 times. I've reduced my nic speed to half duplex like another post recommended....but still not able to renew my IP address. Any other words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. KJGuy
