  1. Hey guys, I'm very familiar with the forum and the stickies :)

    When I had XP I had DL speeds of up to 12mbs.

    Now with Vista I get a max of 2 or 3.

    Here's what I've done following the sticky outline:

    1. Vista

    2. Comcast

    3. TCP Optimizer

    4. :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Download Connection is:: 136 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 386 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 17 kB/s

    Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1)

    Test Time:: 2007/06/28 - 1:50pm

    Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 60.24 sec

    Tested from a 386 kB file and took 23.315 seconds to complete

    Download Diagnosis:: May need help : running at only 2.38 % of your hosts average (comcast.net)

    5. -10. Done

    11. Looking for a firewall right now ..

    12. Done with NOD32

    13. - 15. Done

    I'm running the same programs that I did with XP.

    Anti-Virus: NOD32

    Ad-Ware: Ad-Ware Pro

    Spybot S&D

    The only programs that I haven't installed yet were System Mech 7 and Comodo FW. Comodo FW isn't compatible yet so I'll have to look elsewhere.

  2. With some details left behind, is there some kind of program that will block off wireless internet users on my command? For example, lets say I have two computers, 1 has a connection of Modem>Broadband Router>Computer, all connections through wires. 2nd computer is just connected to the internet through the router.

    Are there any programs, like a firewall, that I can disable the access of the internet for the 2nd computer? I tried searching but there was stuff about WPA and things like that which I did not quite understand.

    Thanks!

  3. Hey, my first questions is:

    I downloaded some registry tweaks that will up my speeds and everytime I double click it to change my registry, it opens up through word or notepad.

    What do I do to add it to my registry instead of opening it with notepad?

    2nd questions:

    What browser should I use? IE7, Fox, or Opera?

    Thanks for the help fellas!

  4. I use System Mechanic 6 Pro. It has a built in firewall-(Kapersky), defrag, registry fixer, and all that crap! It's really good!

    I also use Spy S&D, Ad-Ware Pro, O&O Defrag, CCleaner.

    I use to use all of the above but System Mechanic Pro and I used Sygate and NOD32 but I had trojans and keyloggers and crap ..I also sometimes used Tune Up Utilties.

    The only programs that I have running is Opera and Word.

    I'll give that modem thing a try and I have not scanned in safe mode ..

    Any idea on how I could improve this?

  9. 1. What OS are you running? Examples: Windows 98, Windows XP. If you have XP make sure you have SP2 installed! Also download the p2p fix for SP2 here

    Answer:Im using Window XP

    If you have a MAC try BroadbandOptimizer

    2. Who your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is, and what the advertised speed for download/upload is.

    Answer: Comcast, Not sure

    3. What tweaking programs you already have installed, and run this test.  Copy all text and paste it in your post! For security reasons, blank out your IP #.

    Answer:TCP Optimizer

    TCP options string = 020405b40103030201010402

    MTU = 1500

    MTU is fully optimized for broadband.

    MSS = 1460

    Maximum useful data in each packet = 1460, which equals MSS.

    Default TCP Receive Window (RWIN) = 256960

    RWIN Scaling (RFC1323) = 2 bits (scale factor of 4)

    Unscaled TCP Receive Window = 64240

    RWIN is a multiple of MSS

    Other RWIN values that might work well with your current MTU/MSS:

    513920 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 8)

    256960 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 4) <-- current value

    128480 (MSS x 44 * scale factor of 2)

    64240 (MSS x 44)

    bandwidth * delay product (Note this is not a speed test):

    Your TCP Window limits you to: 10278.4 kbps (1284.8 KBytes/s) @ 200ms

    Your TCP Window limits you to: 4111.36 kbps (513.92 KBytes/s) @ 500ms

    MTU Discovery (RFC1191) = ON

    Time to live left = 53 hops

    TTL value is ok.

    Timestamps (RFC1323) = OFF

    Selective Acknowledgements (RFC2018) = ON

    IP type of service field (RFC1349) = 00100000 (32)

    Precedence (priority) = 001 (priority)

    Delay = 0 (normal delay)

    Throughput = 0 (normal throughput)

    Reliability = 0 (normal reliability)

    Cost = 0 (normal cost)

    Check bit = 0 (correct, 8th checking bit must be zero)

    DiffServ (RFC 2474) = CS1 001000 (8) - class 1 (RFC 2474). Similar forwarding behavior to the ToS Precedence field.

    4. What speed do you have against https://testmy.net and http://nitro.ucsc.edu/ also download this Tracert and Ping program (made by php) and click on check.bat.  When it's done, copy and paste the results in your post.

    5. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need.  You most likely only need "Client for Microsoft Networks" and "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)."  If you share files on your home network, you also need "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks."

    Answer:done that...

    6. Open Internet Explorer and select the Tools menu, go to Internet Options, Connections tab, click the

    LAN settings button, make sure nothing there is checked.

    Answer:done that....

    7. Never Connect to your modem via USB ! Always connect to your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it depends on the ISP service unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL. If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware.

    Answer:done that... my NIC is now set to.... and firmware is the latest avalible

    8. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for at least 3 minutes

    Answer:done that...

    9. Download, update, and do a scan with SpyBot and Ad Aware to remove any spyware

    Answer:done that....

    11. Install Outpost Firewall, Sygate Firewall, or Zone Alarm.

    Answer:I got Sygate

    12. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one, AVG, Avast!, and Ewido are great.

    Answer:done that, my antivirus program is NOD32

    13. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates

    Answer:done that.....

    14. Download and run CCleaner

    Answer:done that...

    15. Go to VanBuren testmy.net Cablenut settings and install Cablenut 4.08 and Vanburens cablenut settings version 9

    Answer:Done that but VanBurens site is down :(

    On the same computer, I was using Windows 2k and I DLed at a constant rate of 10-11mbs!

    Now, I installed XP and don't have Vanburens Cablenut settings and I'm DLing at 3mbs .. Help please!

    Thanks for reading!
