i went online and got me a diskboot OEM for 98 ... but i dont know anyhting about commands...is there another way ?

I have a used computer from a friend and im trying to reinstall windows xp on it so i can delete the whole drive and intall a clean widows xp on it... i loaded my windows xp cd into the computer, and i selected i wanted a clean intallation of windows..{delteting evertyhing on the hardrives},
when the computer restarts i go trough the following options :
Windows Setup
- i pick to to set up windows XP now...so i press Enter
- i get to the screen with the option to repair {R} or fresh copy of XP {ESC}....i press ESC
- now it tells me to pick where i want to install xp....so i press D to delete the selected partion... i press D
***HERE IS MY PROBLEM***...it tells me that setup is unable to perform the requested operation on the selected partiton. This partition contains temporary setup files that are required to complete the intstallation...to continiue press enter and it takes me back to the previous options..
any help would be appreciated..

thanks man, u really did help me out,,,this is great.....once again thanks for the info and i will be trying that tmorrow cause i 4am here...lol....yeah i will put some underwear on that PC before i hit the net...

oh ok thanks, so that will just wipped out all the extra stuff and just keep windows files and important computer files ?

well i want to clean it out, the computer has a 75GB HD but it only has 50GB free,

i got a computer from a friend but he bought the computer costum made 2 years ago... so my question is if i install a clean Windows XP again will it recognize all the drivers. or will i have to get the drivers myself....if thats the case how will i know the dirvers that i need cause i dont have any cds for any of the hardware....

i went there and i did what it ask me 2,,,,but i dont have cleansweep from norton,, this problem started when i unistall norton last week now i have Mcafee AIO
