I don't want the government to do anything except to open up all internet connections to competition with other companies. Presently in most locations in the USA you don't have a choice of companies. Competition will drive up speed and lower prices. Another idea that has been tried and proven is using the power lines to transmit internet.

When I started my DSL service 3+ years ago I was promised all the speed my location could support. The further away you are from an amplifier the slower your speed. I just got a mailer promising to double my speed for an additional $5/month. What a smoke screen!
