anyone have any advice on this?

Hey  i just got my cable service and I bought a motorola surfboard but when the cable guy installed my connection he said it wasnt working right so he set up a rca dcm425. should i keep this modem of return the motorola and try to set that on up again. with this modem i am running 4.1mbs but it drops to 2.5 every so often
