  1. :D Hi Pitbull!

    Here are my latest stats after putting in Van Buren's ccs file

    :::.. Upload Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 114 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)

    Upload Speed is:: 14 kB/s

    Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

    Test Time:: Wed Mar 23 09:43:02 UTC+0530 2005

    Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 73.14 sec

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 39.02 % faster than the average for host

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 258 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 31 kB/s

    Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

    Test Time:: Wed Mar 23 09:46:15 UTC+0530 2005

    Bottom Line:: 5X faster than 56K 1MB download in 33.03 sec

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 141.12 % faster than the average for host

    I do get slightly different numbers if i test consecutively, i think its because of that pulsing phenomenon I mentioned earlier. Is the packet loss gonna be a problem? I think on average my connection is running faster but before putting in the tweaks, I was getting around 220-240 Kbps constant.

    Any way to get around the spiking?

    Cheers

  2. Thanks VanBuren for the prompt reply.

    Funnily enough the settings I had used to get 281 were a mistake. since the RWIN link wasnt working I checked out the formula written in the page code which was i believe : [(Bandwidth(bytes)*Latency(ms))/MSS^0.5]*MSS I being the d00fus that I am while pinging took the TTL to be my latency which in this case was 30 and so I put in that value.

    So if I get your formula right my RWIN should be :

    (Bandwidth*Latency)/8/MSS then round off then  *MSS

    so in this case

    (256*250)/8=8000/1460=5.479 then 6*1460=8760 should be my RWIN? Is that right?

    Also why the pulsing of the bandwidth the bandwidth meter in my GetRight window looks like an EKG full of spikes not a continuous stream of high speed goodness  :D

    Cheers

  3. help I have a funny problem.

    I have a cable connection whihc is connected to the local gateway via a wireless unit on the top of my apartment building.

    It is rated at 256 kbps and I used to get abot 240 kbps. I always used testmy.net for the speed check then I stumbled upon and installed Cablenut. The RWIN calculator on the link given by VanBuren wasnt working  so I put in my own value and I was getting about 281 kbps :) Then my connection had some connectivity problem (local I am sure) so I had removed the tweaks and reinput them yesterday using the default settings of Cable_DSL 1500_256.

    Now the funny thing, on tesing I am getting:

    :::.. Download Stats ..:::

    Connection is:: 272 Kbps about 0.3 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)

    Download Speed is:: 33 kB/s

    Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

    Test Time:: Wed Mar 23 01:56:59 UTC+0530 2005

    Bottom Line:: 5X faster than 56K 1MB download in 31.03 sec

    Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 172 % faster than the average for host

    I use GetRight for downloading stuff now but that doesnt show accurate download speeds  but it keeps fluctuating showing 0 KB/s then 22.3 KB/s etc earlier it used to show constant values and give stable downloads. Is it because of the registry tweak?

    Should I remove the cablenut settings? anything I can change? Also how can I calculate accurate RWIN?
