...For me. I am now downloading at less than average dial-up speeds. (Windows XP). To spare the long story, the representatives indicated that it could by spyware, viruses, blahblahblah. When I told them that this problem is suddenly occurring on my Mac as well, they stopped accusing my loverly VAIO of being the problem.
I was taken around the corner and back again; was told several times to do their lousy speedtest, which was frustratingly inaccurate. I kept saying to one rep, "But the test at testmy.net aligns with what I'm actually getting... 19 KB/sec - 48 KB/sec... Your test STINKS!" (lol!)
Finally the guy said, "What's that site again?" So he and I both opened testmy.net . Needless to say, he saw "true" scores from this site as well. Another rep admitted that he, too, was receiving very inaccurate speed scores from Verizon's test, and that the scores from testmy.net were accurate.
They sent me a new modem, Westell 2200... Problem persisted.
AnyHOO, I'm in Philadelphia, frustrated as Hell. I'm on the phone right now to get cable service. Screw this.
