I can't upload.

I moved to 7000 back in december and im happy for more upload speed.  pings got a little better, but download speeds are starting to suffer on weekdays during afternoon hours.  my ping times usually stay 600-750ms, but speeds can go down to around 200kbps at peak hours.

i've noticed the software download status hang on received first heartbeat after I had to reboot my modem.  Infact I think its like that now.

THis is with the same settings I used to get over 1000kbps with 99% of the time

that would be scary, but Dway has nobody local that works with them around me, so that makes a bad situation worse.  I still think WB has got something going for them....Dway would not quit installing if a meteor shower took out each and every satellite they had! The ads would continue and the installers would temporarily hook people up to dial up accounts.

yep, I heard wildblue already quit installing in some areas until they get more capacity to handle new customers. correct me if im wrong, but im sure I read this somewhere.  Dway used to run fine for me all the time. now it still runs but slows down greatly between 5pm and 10pm every weeknight.

read about that over on the dslreports forum.  alot of people seem unhappy about the fap change, but yet they are still getting decent customer reviews. i have been experimenting with many different tweak settings, and there seems to be no effect, with all registers set to nothing, is the same or better than any tweak settings I have tried.

as for upgrading your system to larger dish; did you purchase from a local 'dealer' or online?

i purchased from local dealer and was able to upgrade systems for only the difference in price, did not have to purchase entire system again, but my dishes are all mounted on poles not one trimast mount (for house).  This meant that only the dish had to be swapped out and the plan changed. 

I must emphasize that I have a great relationship with the dealer and have purchased many systems.

I puchased online.  I might could come across some used equipment a little cheaper  Just was looking at the price on dways website   I have kicked the idea around now for a little while, but never got serious about it.  Might be good to go to a local guy so I can have someone to turn to for warranty issues if anything bites the dust.  I would rather deal with a person face to face on stuff like that.

I can get about the same speed without tweaks as I do with also.  i have had times where I'm sure applying tweaks has had a negative effect. (with 7000 modem). Back when I was on the 6000 I never saw big increases, But did a little good after a few tries with different settings. They seem to have cut out all of the fun with these new modems.

seemed like cablenut helped with the 6000.  that is it made things more consistent.  no big increase in either download or upload.  I've even tried using tcp optimizer. But I don't believe you will get any big increase if your already over 1000Kbps.(unless your on a business plan) During peak hours no tweaks seem to help anything. I have had no luck tweaking the 7000, but i'm no expert. I've tried everybodys tweaks i could find.

I was gonna upgrade to the small office plan until I realized my dish and transmitter will not work for that.

DirecWay will not re-point dish, will not replace transmitter, will not replace the LNB that the clown cut the plastic window out of.....all equipment is under warranty, re-point was ordered by Dway engineering. This whole ordeal just shows how the system  scam works. I'm sure they will call sometime soon wanting me to extend the warranty etc..  guess one should order a spare system from ebay to keep a spare on hand or become a certified so they will send parts directly as the modem is. Its just back and forth between Hughes and the installer company as I refuse to pay them any fees to perform this work, if I pay will order new parts myself and put them on myself.

Might as well go ahead and preorder Spaceway 3 services!

My speeds look about like yours from 5pm to 10pm every weeknight.

I would love to be able to install or just repoint my own dish. i here were not supposed to touch it ourselves, but it sure beats waiting two weeks for a repoint everytime my dish moves a millimeter.  Maybe I need a better pole mount.

tommie,  your speeds are great for a 6000.  I had that modem for 1.5 years and never saw anything over 1020 or 1030Kbps. averaged about 900.  you got me beat and i'm on the 7000

So I power-cycle my modem today (because it had been on for 5 days and I was getting lots of little red X's) and when it comes back on, it says I have a signal of 10 (prior to power-cycling it was 50). So I think no big deal, I'll just try it again. Same thing happens. Then I think "Maybe they're having problems.... I'll just leave it off for a while." After about 2 hours of it off, I turn it back on and it's still at 10.

So I eat dinner, then call DirecWay. They won't transfer me to level 2, so I have to sit and talk to an Indian who doesn't know anything and it takes him 5 minutes to give instructions; he says something, I do it, *waits 30 seconds*, then he tells me something else, *waits 30 seconds*, ect.

They finally come to conclusion that my dish if off alignment... They say that they're going to get an installer out and re-align the dish. Fortunately, they gave me a temporary dial-up account, so I can be on that for a while. And I checked my dish, nothing's off. I even tweaked it a little last weekend. There is more movement than normal; like if I pull on the left side of the dish it moves a lot, but it doesn't change the signal at all.

I think it's a faulty transmitter, what do you guys think?

Sorry to hear your having trouble.  I had a problem like this once and it happen during clear weather, i was on the 6000 modem then.  after spending nearly half a day on the phone with dway (they had to transfer me up to level 2 support)  and waiting almost two weeks for someone to come out..... it turned out to be that my dish had gotten off by a little.  A repoint fixed my problem.  transmitter was fine. ONly thing different is you rebooted when you lost signal. I never rebooted it just happened during the middle of the day.  Maybe you failed crosspole or something.  (Thats just a thought, I'm not sure about that)

I also get the red X thing alot from time to time...restarting the modem is the only fix I have heard of other than just waiting it out. Atleast the gave you a dial up account. Thats way better support than I got.

I was able to get xpol up from high 60's into the mid 70 range.  It's very touchy. Seems like 1 millimeter either way and i go back to 68 or 69. I'm using the manual crosspole test on the setup-antenna pointing page.  I would never attempt this with anything less than clear skies. When finished I ran the automatic test and got a 74.  I was not tweaking for more signal. but somehow during the process i got it  from a 46 to 53.  Signal of 55 for my sat and transponder is the highest I've heard of anyone getting with the 7000.
