Hi Martha, sorry you haven't got a reply on this yet. To be honest with you I don't have first hand experience improving wireless internet speed.

Hopefully someone that has more experience with WiMAX reads this thread and provide some insite. Just wanted to let you know that your post isn't being ignored... we're just waiting for someone to respond to this thread that that knows more about residential wireless than I do.

What's your quoted speed by the way?

Your ISP must be leasing a connection from Qwest.net... because my site is detecting your ISP as Qwest.net meaning that the hostname attached to your IP address originates from Qwest... They must be a fairly small provider, no?

I don't know why Qwest is mentioned since this connection has nothing to do with Qwest who is our phone company. I think our provider is linked to them somehow though.

Speeds range from 20 kbps (even down to 10) all the way to 6.5 mbps. It varies. They upgraded our radio to a faster connection so usually

now the average when it's working (it works 2/3rd of the time) is probably around 2-3 mbps.

Looking at your coverage map , can you say weather your deep within the zone , or on the edge of the coverage zone. Not asking for an exact location of course.

I don't think there is a coverage map but they have told me that they have customers all around us. We live out in the desert with not many neighbors so even if there are others with this service, some even on our street, it's not very many. Our mile long road only has 7 households on it.

Also it seems that your IP may be shared, considering how close you are to testmy.net server , I would recommend running the timed test, this way we can see at what times you have peak or low bandwidth.

I have and that's even slower!

2.4 ghz is close to a lot of cordless items , such as most older wireless home phones and of the likes.

They changed the radio to 5.8 and now when I use my phone, also 5.8, the internet won't work.

You can run a traceroute to testmy.net to see where your being routed, and to get a better idea of the latency in your connection. If it is in fact due to the wireless, or if there is a congested node somewhere thereafter.

HI, I'm new to this forum and would like to tell a little about our internet connection in Las Cruces, NM, outside of town away in the desert.

We do not have cable or DSL here because we don't have the proper lines. Satellite is expensive and very very slow. So there are two companies which offer

their own set ups and I've used both but they are very slow and unpredictable.

Here is the set up: We have an antenna on the roof that communicates to the local provider's towers which are set up around the area. It's similar to using a cell phone

tower. The antenna on our roof has a radio on it that operates on 2.4 frequency. The download speed varies, the high is maybe 1500 kbps but it can go down most of the

time to only 200 kbps and even down to close to 0, just a slow slow crawl that keeps dropping the connection. We have had our antenna and radio and all cables replaced

but it doesn't help. Unknown interferences are happening all the time yet we live in an area with very little neighbors.

The radio on the roof follows an ethernet cable through the wall into the house which goes into a modem, out the other side of the modem and into our router. We use

two mac computers on this and one iPad.

I've searched the internet looking for anyone with a faster wireless connection and when I find them, it's either DSL or cable which we don't have or for instance CLEAR

4G which isn't in our area. I did try the Alltel wifi wireless connection for a day but that also was slow so I sent it back since it cost more.

Is there such a thing out there that would give us faster internet? Sprint 4G is not in our area either but from what I've read the speed is only around 1200 kbps in reality

though it's advertised as much much faster.
