I am using the Actiontec router supplied by Verizon. I am also repeating the signal through an Apple Airport Extreme in another section of the house via an ethernet connection. Both are capable of supporting the higher FiOs speeds. My FiOs connection does not go through any modem, FiOs is is sent through an ONT mounted on my basement wall. There are no routers with FiOs. The Optimizer was set at 20000 by the Verizon tech rep via remote access to my PC. Norton has been disbled for all of these tests. I have not checked in safe mode only because there have not been any software installs, or downloads before the speed fluctuations started. I should point out that my speeds had been stable for the first two months of my service. Thanks for your input.

I just bumped up my service to the 15/2 package. I ran the speed optimizer. I am spyware free. I have cleaned out my cache, and temp files. I am now measuring download speeds from 2 - 12 mg! I am consistently in the 5-7 mg area. I called Verizon Tech support, they lead me to a third party speed optimizer. But no luck!, What is wrong, and what can I do!

I must say, from the online ordering of Fios, to the installers (2 that came out and were installing everything the way I wanted, they even set me up for the switch to Vopnage that I did myself), to the quality of connection I have been very happy so far with Fios. The only thing I will say is that I orginally signed up for the 5 meg service, and was looking to bump it up to the 15 meg service and found I couldn't do it online, I have to wait until Monday and cal them. Seems strange that this high tech service isn't fully on line capable. But so far very happy.

I have the 5/2 service in September, and have been getting a pretty stable 5/2 ever since. I am sharing it over the Actiontec router, and an Airport Extreme with OS X Macs, and XP PCs. The speed optimizer works well. I have not run wire nut on PCs or Macs, or any kind of speed optimizer on the Macs. You should be getting much better than that. Pretty Sweet

This rocks Verizon did the most amazing install job. They mounted a board on the all of my basement and mounted all the hardware to it. It looks very very slick! The installers were very cool, and even set me up so when I go to Vonage the install will back fill all the phones in my house. The Actiontec router is covering one end of my house, and my airport extreme repeats it on the other end of the house! This rocks I am getting full 5 meg speed wirelessly, now I'm going for the full. I am thrilled beyond words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Suck this Comcast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cool thanks again, then I'm in! I'm thinking of switching to Vonage with the increased bandwidth now too How long is the wait on the FiOS install from peoples experiences?

I currently have an Airport Extreme base station sharing my Verizon DSL connection with; Mac 10.3 (connected via ethernet cable) iMac 10.4 (connected via Airport card) Window XP on an AMD 64 Athlon (connected via D-Link 802.11G pci card). Can use this gear if I upgrade to FiOS? The Verizon web site says that Fios does not support wireless adapters on the Mac?

...on "quiring database". I've never had this problem before, whats the deal? I do have a new machine, Am I missing a plug in?

I have been experiencing the same issues at roughly the same time frames for nearly a month. I actually even got a technician (VZW Telephone electrician) sent to my house to check all of the wiring. Line speeds were great then (early AM) I convinced VZW to change out my Wirespeed 2100 modem that was new two years ago for a new 2200. After all of that, and 5 more trouble tickets the problem remains. What I have learned from calling technical support for the Mac late one Sunday night. 1.) The problem in Eastern Ma is due to an "overtaxed public trunk line in Cambridge, MA" Verizon knows about this, and haven't been able to fix, but will not admit it. 2.) They will not credit your account, nor admit any wrong doing as they continue to oversell into their infra-structure making the problem worse. We can only wait, or leave as I can get better speed from a dial up most of the time for 1/3 the price of VZW DSL.
