Sharky2006 Posted January 26, 2006 CID Share Posted January 26, 2006 I downloaded Google Web Accelerator and eventually within a few days noticed that my system was/seemed slower and slower (even after I cleaned everything....cookies, prefetch, etc.) I uninstalled GWA but it still shows in my firefox extensions as being there but nowhere else (as far as I can tell). My internet speed sometimes goes to a crawl and eventually (this part has happened everyday since) when I open up more than 4 windows, the fourth window hangs and leaves a blank page that I can't close. I then have to use the Task Manager to close Firefox. I don't know what to do....help, please.

My thoughts on this problem:: I think that some part of gwa got left behind when you uninstalled it - possable within registry - ?? is it still shown in add/remove ?? download and run www.ccleaner.com this application will clean the registry of errors and it removes junk files Also I'm attaching a uninstaller {gnu lic} program that I know as a fact will remove the application UnInstaller
Sharky2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Author CID Share Posted January 27, 2006 I already have ccleaner and have used it (and use it frequently). I just downloaded the uninstaller and am about to run it
Guest jeffwalker9999 Posted January 27, 2006 CID Share Posted January 27, 2006 You will need to reinstall gwa and then remove it with uninstaller 4 The database build takes for ever ---as a heads up see pictures within the zip file I'm not {repeat} not familure with the other parts [ file cleanup & quick clean up - I've not used them ] of the uninstaller 4 software application I hope this helps you fix it..... Also in web browser - check Proxy -Network settings If I recall [gwa] adds info into that field of the browsers net settings

I'm like 90-95 % sure that the browsers proxy area gets a url put in it by Google Web Accelerator - ?? Correct or Incorrect ?? About all I can think of - left behind a file .dll .vbx , etc when deleted Thats why Uninstaller 4 - because it removes to reg level Anyone else have ideas on what is doing this problem ?? ccr1958 Posted January 27, 2006 CID Share Posted January 27, 2006 i would run regedit & search for google web accelerator & delete all instances of it manually.. but if not comfortable altering the registry then don't try it
