KJGuy Posted January 27, 2006 CID Share Posted January 27, 2006 Someone PLEASE help. I purchased a brand new hp Pavillion with Windows XP Pro w/ SP2. I use a cable connection from comcast that works because I'm using it with my old laptop now. I have been trying everything in my power for the last three days to get a valid IP address. I've used every tutorial available including the one this site titled "Cable Internet Connection Guide for Windows XP", I've tried everthing in this guide that corresponded to my situation at least 5 times. I've reduced my nic speed to half duplex like another post recommended....but still not able to renew my IP address. Any other words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Swimmer Posted January 27, 2006 CID Share Posted January 27, 2006 First welcome to the forum! Are you using ethernet to connect to the modem? Try power cycling the modem.. then plugging in the network cable into the computer when it is shut down.. power up and see what happens.. also post what you are getting when you do start->run-> type cmd then press enter -> type ipconfig /all post that and we will see what we can do for ya! Swimmer Posted January 27, 2006 CID Share Posted January 27, 2006 glad it worked.. now you can enjoy the new laptop! I would suggest maybe picking a router so that you can still use the other one if you wanted..
