bcraven Posted March 10, 2006 CID Share Posted March 10, 2006 I am connected to comcast with a SB5120 into my desktop running XP. Testmy.Net shows that I am running at T1 speed versus 6Mbps. Connecting through USB or NET makes no difference. Testing under Internet Explorer vs Modzilla makes no difference. Comcast came to my house. Using a notebook running XP and my network (cable, modem, ISP) they approached 6.0Mbps. They said that "something" in my desktop is the problem. I'm a newbee and don't know where to start. Any suggestions on isolating the problem?
jared Posted March 10, 2006 CID Share Posted March 10, 2006 Welcome to the forums bcraven! Check for adaware. If thats not the problem, you may have a virus. Another thing to look for is when they ran a speed test from their notebook, they could have been running a speed test to the datacenter that you are in. Which means you aren't getting anywhere close to advertisted speeds. Good luck!
bcraven Posted March 10, 2006 Author CID Share Posted March 10, 2006 I run Adware (and Spybot) RELIGIOUSLY and have scanned memory + disc with AVG. The comcast rep ran testmy.net -- at my insistance rather than a test of his choosing.
