WFD Posted June 8, 2006 CID Share Posted June 8, 2006 I visit a half-dozen or so sites / day but can see from Norton Antivirus system scans that my computer acquires something like 10,000 files/week. The implication is that an "average" site visit dumps hundreds of temporary files on my computer. Is this nuts or does anyone else have this happen ? When running a search for Files or Folders - I can momentarily see names of folders flick by as subfolders under ......Temporary Internet Filescontent.IE5(folder name). The folder names are computer-generated names like FJH07QCM, for example, and each one may hold thousands of files. I recently picked through many of these and deleted about 100,000 files, thereby recovering a gigabyte of hard drive space. Is there a way to know where all these files are coming from and / or to prevent it ? Are there likely to be particular sites that are the dominant culprits and any way to know which ones ?
