SpikedCola Posted July 17, 2006 CID Share Posted July 17, 2006 Im spending a week at my cousins house, so this is his cable, not mine. Anyways, when cable was laid in their area, it was set up for a subdivision, but it was never built. He has the massive cable running into their house. Its so fast, infact, that they need an attenuator to drop the voltage/whatever going into the modem so that it doesnt fry. My question is: can you buy smaller attenuators, or a better modem, that will allow for faster speeds? The day they got it, my cousin removed the attenuator and had speeds of 700kb/s and higher, but the modem burnt out in a day and a half (flashing red lights, no connection). Right now, we get around 100-150kb/s, and its obvious that it can go higher.

Problem is, my speeds have dropped to around that area, and I cant get them to go any higher. I havent done any optimizations yet, so Im working on cablenut. I just wanted a record of before & after. SpikedCola Posted July 18, 2006 Author CID Share Posted July 18, 2006 Im at his house now. They said that there's nothing that they can do, as they installed the attenuator and thats whats best for us. Bastards. But yeah, is there any way to use a smaller attenuator or another modem that can handle the higher voltages?
