techdummie Posted December 10, 2006 CID Share Posted December 10, 2006 Alrighty. As you may have guessed from my user name, I am technologically retarded. With that in mind, I had a question as to why my upload rate is so crappy. Every time I take the test, I get an average of 16kB/s. It also says under "Test Result Details" that I'm only running at 15.88% of my host's average (verizon.net). Could anyone tell me why this may be or how I can go about improving it? Sparticus Posted December 10, 2006 CID Share Posted December 10, 2006 Welcome to the forum techdummie! About the 15.88% of your hosts part. That just means that most people who have Verizon internet have a higher upload speed than you. If you could post a Dual Test result it would be great. Take the dual test here: http://www.testmy.net/tools/test/dual_load.php (Choose Server 1) Do you know what package of internet you have from Verizon? Welcome to the forum... Unfortunately you are in a very odd situation.. The problem is that the way that the % of host speed is calculated is based on IP addresses registered to the ISP.. So verizon in your case. This is great if the ISP only offers one speed for internet connection. Well Verizon does not.. It offers everything from FIOS which can max out at 30mbps download and 5mbps upload. They also offer DSL ranging from 768kbps download and 128kbps upload to 3mbps down and 768 up. So looking at your test result it looks like you have DSL.. yet the comparison % is being calculated over all of the tests run from the provider regardless of technology and package speed.
