haxx0rm4ster Posted December 11, 2006 CID Share Posted December 11, 2006 Hey guys, just wanted to tell you guys about Gael Duval's (the creator of Mandrake/Mandriva) latest project: Ulteo. It's a distribution currently based on Kubuntu Dapper, first Alpha released codenamed Sirius came out on December 6. As with many distros, Ulteo is focusing on trying to make things easier for users - in other words trying to lower the amount of administration tasks and fixes etc. to be able to run Linux as desired. i.e. having to configure xorg.conf on a Ubuntu system if it doesn't allow to use the GUI to change the system's resolution, etc. Now what makes Ulteo specially different from other distros with possible similar concepts, etc., is Gael Duval's leadership... his experience should come in handy with his project. Another feature that's still to be released is the Connected Desktop... something similar to a remote desktop for Linux that can be done through a web browser. Anyway guys, hope to see some of you in Ulteo's community, See ya!
Swimmer Posted December 12, 2006 CID Share Posted December 12, 2006 That is an interesting little project... still in alpha so I wouldnt recommend it as a primary os.. but looks like it could yield something pretty cool down the road
