Velocity Posted January 27, 2005 CID Share Posted January 27, 2005 I just recently got an upgrade from cox hsi. I have the 5768 package. When I do speed tests they vary drastically from min to min. The lowest score is 3,9 and my highest is 5.1. Is there anything I can do to make my connection more consistent or is this just a affect of network congestion? My cablenut settings are as follows: RWIN= 655360 DefaulSendWindow=98304 GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize=128480 TCPWindowsSize=128480 DefaultTOS=240 My most recent score: :::.. Velocity Posted January 27, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 27, 2005 Thanks for the quick replies. My OS is WinXP SP2. The only tweaking program that I have is Cable Nut. VanBuren Posted January 27, 2005 CID Share Posted January 27, 2005 looks alot better quote "Web100 reports the Round trip time = 101.47 msec; the Packet size = 1460 Bytes; and There were 4 packets retransmitted, 125 duplicate acks received, and 127 SACK blocks received" only 4 packets retransmitted now compared to 24 before what you can do is to finetune TcpWindowsize and GlobalMaxTcpWindowsize both those values should be the same, use this RWIN calculator http://www.dslnuts.com/bitsbytes.shtml MSS is 1460 Bandwidth in KB/s = 5000/8 = 625 KB/s latency = the worst possible ping to your gateway, when you uploading downloading at full speed, this value suppose to be between 200 and 300 for cable. I used 250 in my tweakfiles. try a latency of 220 that give you a TcpWindowSize and GlobalMaxTcpWindowsize of 137240 good luck VanBuren
Velocity Posted January 27, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 27, 2005 Thank You for the help . This is the most consistent speed ive gotten. While downloading and uploading I was maxing out on a 190 ping. So would I be safer just leaving the 220ms ping figured in or should I tune it in for 190? :::.. VanBuren Posted January 27, 2005 CID Share Posted January 27, 2005 sweet i would leave it like that if i was you, unless your a tweakfreak like me, then i would try the 190 ms aswell and backup this current settings first VanBuren
Velocity Posted January 27, 2005 Author CID Share Posted January 27, 2005 I figured it with a 200ms amount of latency..Gave myself a 10ms margin of error. Line looks like its running nearly perfectly straight and smooth on all bandwidth test sites. The lines almost as straight as a board Im not touching it anymore
VanBuren Posted January 27, 2005 CID Share Posted January 27, 2005 no problem Velocity, i like to help thanks for reporting back, and understand that its impossible to make completly perfect files that work for everyone no matter isp i use a ping of 250 ms in all of my files, and that cover most, but the finetuning can always make it better VanBuren
