VanBuren Posted February 4, 2005 CID Share Posted February 4, 2005 hey bonkers and welcome to the forum like Swimmer said, timeouts is not a good thing, that indicate packetloss here is also a big problem in your trace 1 55 ms 51 ms 54 ms 64.230.254.10 this first hop ping should be in the 5-15 ms for a fastpath and 30-40 ms for a interleaved dsl service. if you using a phone extension wire, try bypassing it and connect directly to the main phone jacket in your house also reboot your modem and if you usinga router, by pass it and connect direct from PC to your modem now post a new traceroute VanBuren

VanBuren Posted February 4, 2005 CID Share Posted February 4, 2005 call your ISP and ask why you have this high ping to your gateway, a gamer would hate this cos you can never have a lower ping to a gameserver then to your gateway. 2 53 ms 50 ms 50 ms 64.230.254.10 VanBuren
bonkers Posted February 4, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 4, 2005 I have a friend that lives about 100 metres away from me and they get about 5-20 ping on CS servers but i get about 70-100 ping mostly. i have called my ISP many times but they just say that even 20 metres can make a big difference in ping and KB/s. do you think i should change my ISP if they can't help me?
