kngkvsquen Posted February 6, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 6, 2005 We can't get DSL or Cable where we moved, satelite was our only other option. It was suppose to be faster than dial-up, now I have a 11 more months of contract.
Swimmer Posted February 6, 2005 CID Share Posted February 6, 2005 well lets try some things.. tracert testmy.net and post the results.. This way we can see if it is the wireless or the satelite that is causing problems.. also run a download test..

Swimmer Posted February 6, 2005 CID Share Posted February 6, 2005 it looks like it is your satelite connection.. you ping times are REALLY high!! it isnt the wireless that is causing the problem...
kngkvsquen Posted February 7, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 7, 2005 So is there any way to help this situation? Everytime I call Direcway I get someone who can't speak English very well, and they don't understand my very southern accent - it's a real communication barrier when you have the two trying to talk to each other! Or am I just stuck until DSL or Cable make it out to the country.
Tram Posted February 17, 2005 CID Share Posted February 17, 2005 I cannot tell you how much that sounds like me.. I don't mind people who cannot speak english, but when I am in America and need help with something - as communication sensitive as trouble shooting a computer problem over the phone - it drives me nuts to speak to someone who I would have trouble telling them how to make me a sandwich.. My wireless is slow too.. not as slow as yours.. However, in the past few days - my internet has turned into a complete crawl.. I was at 5.91% of the "hosts average" earlier tonight.. I cannot wait - CANNOT WAIT until I can toss this satellite and get cable.. THey just won't run it out here yet.. What's even worse - the bellsouth website says it's available in my area - yet when i call they tell me no..
kngkvsquen Posted February 17, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 17, 2005 I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that wishes to trash this dish! Yesterday was horrible - by the way, I'm on dial-up right now. I could not even email the company to tell them how slow my system was because it kept timing out, 14 tries later the email went. Their response was the same as always, clear the cashe, temps etc. I mean, do they think I'm totally stupid? I finally gave up and called again. After 5 1/2 hours on the phone I got to the advanced level of support, guess what? They are all American, not only that, they could understand southern. We did find a level of higher browsing, alas, it was not to be. The transmitter on the satelite blew. I'm having to use dial-up until they send out the new one and someone to install it. I hate to say this, but I'm actually surfing at a higher speed than I was with the satelite. The cable company has said they will run cable in our area in about a year. I'm crossing my fingers that it gets here, or DSL would be ok. Both DSL and cable stop about a 1/2 mile from my house. It's like someone is mocking me and doing the nananana dance just up the street! Good luck..

kngkvsquen Posted February 17, 2005 Author CID Share Posted February 17, 2005 I have the DW6000. We've checked the http settings along with everything else we could find. I'm hopeful that the speed will increase when I get a new transmitter installed. My speed at download right before it all blew up yesterday was 14 kb/s. My upload was a 2. I've had cable and dsl before at other homes. It's just not availble out here in the country yet. But as soon as it comes, I'm going to take a sledge hammer to my satelite. I have even questioned the location of the dish several times, but they don't seem to think it is a problem. My house sits on a slope, the dish is at the back of the slope on a retainer wall. It sits about even with the first level of my house. My computer is located on the third floor. The retainer wall is also about 20 feet before you get to a very thick forest and swamp. However, the side yard, which I would have thought they would have put it in is even with the middle floor and completely open to about 50 acres of soybean fields. They didn't even point it towards the fields, they have it pointing towards trees.
