gwulfwud Posted September 19, 2008 CID Share Posted September 19, 2008 Hey guys, tried to read the sticky thread before posting this but i can't understand most of it. So I just went straight here and posted this thread. So here's the thing I have a fios internet and I have the 10/2 plan. A week after the connection was installed the download speed was fast, probably around 80kbps/s, which i think is still slow..which is probably caused by the wireless router being at the living room and my pc on the 2nd floor. Now, a couple of days before my brother just turned off the router (not sure if does affect my speed connection) but when i turned it on it just got slow. so slow that when i download something the max is just 9 kbps. so i went here and test my connection... and here're the results... Download Connection is:: 88 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Download Speed is:: 11 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Main) Test Time:: 2008/09/18 - 11:07pm Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 93.09 sec Tested from a 97 kB file and took 9.043 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: May need help : running at only 1.54 % of your hosts average (verizon.net) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-CDEROUBM0 User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/2.0.0.11;MEGAUPLOAD 1.0 [!] so I guess my question is do you think there's something wrong my settings or is it just verizon? Thanks guys -g
docarter Posted September 20, 2008 CID Share Posted September 20, 2008 Ok first off 80Kbps/s IS TERRIBLE FOR ANY FIOS CONNECTION.... Now moving along have you tried plugging directly in, and does your router have a password on it?
gwulfwud Posted September 20, 2008 Author CID Share Posted September 20, 2008 my router has a password on it... so here's the thing, when the "cable guy" installed the tv and the internet connection he had it on the living room without any PCs connected to it...so i basically haven't tried hard wiring my pc to the router.. docarter Posted September 20, 2008 CID Share Posted September 20, 2008 Two things to try #1 -Direct to router #2 -Direct to wall plug-in and post your test results....
gwulfwud Posted September 20, 2008 Author CID Share Posted September 20, 2008 alright so here're the results after i directly connected to the router.. Download Connection is:: 9522 Kbps about 9.5 Mbps (tested with 12288 kB) Download Speed is:: 1162 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Main) Test Time:: 2008/09/20 - 8:39am Bottom Line:: 166X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 0.88 sec Tested from a 12288 kB file and took 10.572 seconds to complete Download Diagnosis:: Awesome! 20% + : 66.85 % faster than the average for host (verizon.net) D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-QK84MOLPU User Agent:: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/2.0.0.11;MEGAUPLOAD 1.0 [!] no idea on how to the other one as im not sure how to connect the cable directly to my pc... docarter Posted September 20, 2008 CID Share Posted September 20, 2008 That's right on target.... You might need to update your router or wireless card to produce better speeds....

docarter Posted September 21, 2008 CID Share Posted September 21, 2008 Linksys routers are great, but try looking for one that supports higher speeds and longer ranges.....
