Comcast speed only 45% of advertised!!

My download connection remains around 45% to 50% of Comcast's advertised speed for its Gold Tier Service (6000/768).  Upload speeds are consistently at 95% to 100%.

Prior to this recent upgrade, my connection was at 100% to 110% of advertised speed (3000/384).  I used TCPOptimizer to tweak the registry settings.

I have installed Cablenut and applied the XP SP2/MSS 1460 ccs file..  Unfortunately, it hasn't fixed the problem.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!  Here's my stats per your sticky:

1. XP Pro SP2. Fix applied.

2. Comcast Gold Tier.  Advertised: 6000/768

3. Installed Cablenut.  Used: Cable & DSL 6000 768.ccs for XP/SP2.

Hey VanBuren,

Thanks.  Your site was recommended in another forum and I'm impressed.

My apologies.  I should have mentioned that I am behind a Netgear WGT624 router.  I first suspected the problem to be caused by the router and connected my pc via ethernet (100 Mbps) to my Motorola SB5100 modem.  Unfortunately, the difference in speed was negligible.  I just connected again to make sure nothing had changed and here's my stats:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 2508 Kbps about 2.5 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB)

Download Speed is:: 306 KB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Test Time:: Sat Feb 19 2005 07:13:40 GMT-0500 (Eastern Standard Time)

Bottom Line:: 45X faster than 56K 1MB download in 3.35 sec

Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 86.63 % of your hosts average (attbi.com)

:::.. Upload Stats ..:::

Connection is:: 633 Kbps about 0.6 Mbps (tested with 2992 KB)

Upload Speed is:: 77 KB/s

Tested From:: http://www.testmy.net/

Bottom Line:: 11X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 13.3 sec

Diagnosis: Awesome! 20% + : 103.54 % faster than the average for host (attbi.com)

I've contacted Comcast and they're showing 6Mbs from their end.  They're sending a tech out Monday to check my line.  Is there anything else that you can think of trying at this point?

Thanks again for your help!

open cablenut, and click delete cablenut tweaks and click save to registry

now reboot, also power cycle your modem for 30 seconds

when using router, set your NIC to 100 Mbps full duplex

wait for the tech to check your connection, and when they fixed it post again and we make it even faster  ;)

VanBuren :)
