KimV Posted May 17, 2016 CID Share Posted May 17, 2016 Repeated tests of laptop wifi show middle variance of 150-190. Ethernet on same computer shows less than 20 middle variance. Different laptop in same location show middle variance of less than 20. Is it safe to assume this a hardware issue with the wifi card in the first laptop? Any help appreciated as MSI is telling me to reset my computer to factory settings (which you all know is a hassle). Computer is five month old GE72 6QD Apache Pro with 6th gen intel core i7 Adapter is Intel dual band ac-3165 Current MSI drivers installed. Worked fine until about one week ago. Restored laptop (windows 10) to point were wifi was last working well. No change - still very high middle variance and web sites slow or fail to load. Paying for 12 mbps - ethernet gets that speed as does the second laptop. This computer gets anywhere from 1.3 to 5 mbps (average on mulitple tests) Any insight welcomed. KimV Posted May 19, 2016 Author CID Share Posted May 19, 2016 I gave up and did a windows 10 reset. Seems to have solved the problem. Still no idea what caused it but appears not to be hardware related.
GreenLantern Posted May 19, 2016 CID Share Posted May 19, 2016 I had a similar problem with Time Warner Cable. TWC uses the 35 year old mechanical copper cable connections in my backyard to handle the up speed. When I complain more than two times, TWC wants to send someone to my home to "check." They check and want me to check with a Flash Test. No way. Odd how that when they leave it seems better, but not great. Laser
