VanBuren Posted April 17, 2005 CID Share Posted April 17, 2005 hey maxboost7 If you have a router, bypass it and connect direct to modem via ethernet disable firewall and antivirusprogram during the test also test this attached file VanBuren

VanBuren Posted April 17, 2005 CID Share Posted April 17, 2005 i do not know, why Smart test give you lower speed but you might have a better route to the NY server aswell try this force your NIC to 10 Mbps half duplex ( this depends what your modem support ) If you connect to a router, then always use 100 Mbps full duplex quote from http://dslnuts.com/tips_tricks.shtml "Windows 2000 or XP: to change to half-duplex: * Open Control Panel. * Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections. * Identify the icon for your cable modem connection: usually Local Area Connection. * Right-click that icon and select Properties. * Under the ethernet adapter icon, click the button Configure. * Click the tab Advanced to bring it to the front: * In the Property box, the property name to be selected varies according to model of ethernet card. Examples are: Network Link Selection, Media Type, Connection Type, Duplex Mode, or any similarly-named property which can have Values looking like Auto-Negotiation, or 10BT, or 10BaseT. * In the Value box, select a value which either (a) explicitly says half-duplex or semi-duplex, or ( at least does not say full-duplex [e.g. 10BaseT on its own is OK]. If there is a choice between 10 and 100 with half-duplex, choose the 10. Do not choose 10Base5, 10Base2, or AUI. * Click OK to exit the Adapter settings. * Click OK to exit the Connection properties. VanBuren Posted April 18, 2005 CID Share Posted April 18, 2005 Thanks a lot for great tweaks!! Where did you learn all this stuff?? I want to learn more about it and where can i learn it? no problem Im abit geeky when it comes to tweaking internet connections, so i read alot in other forums and sites, and i learned from that here is some sites and forums you can learn more http://www.psc.edu/networking/projects/tcptune/ http://www.dslnuts.com/ http://forums.speedguide.net/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=54 with that info, you can start making your own cablenut files and test what work best for you here is a site where you can build your own files very easy http://j79zlr.com/cablenutXP2k.php if you use it, change Synattackprotect to 0 and test a latency value between 150 and 300 ms your MTU is 1500 like most internet connections beside PPPoE and AOL, and some DW systems alot of tweakprograms has a feature that cablenut dosent have, MTU... that parameter often do more harm then good, cos ppl setting MTU wrong by default windows has path MTU detection enabled, so you will have the right MTU unless a router messing it up, thats why its best to use windows default settings and connect direct to modem, to find the right MTU value ina TCP analyzer like http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks good luck VanBuren
