maxair002000 Posted May 17, 2005 CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 Hi everyone, I have a cable connection yet my connection speed is still very slow. I am wondering why this is? I have a Linksys 2.4 GHz router that hooks up a total of four computers to the internet, but even when I shut all the others off my connection speed remains the same. The computer I ran the test on is not using a wireless connection either, it is directly hooked up to the router. I am just wondering if anyone knows what the problem is or can offer any advice. These are the results from the test I ran. Connection is:: 368 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Download Speed is:: 45 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (main) Test Time:: Tue May 17 16:54:36 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 7X faster than 56K 1MB download in 22.76 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 15.7 % of your hosts average (charter.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-ORTG56DPL Thanks
maxair002000 Posted May 17, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 17, 2005 Hi, I followed your instructions and hooked the modem directly into the pc and the ran the test again. Here are the results: Connection is:: 368 Kbps about 0.4 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Download Speed is:: 45 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (main) Test Time:: Tue May 17 17:42:28 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 7X faster than 56K 1MB download in 22.76 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 15.69 % of your hosts average (charter.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-UES1BTN40 As you can see, they are pretty much the same. The advertised speed for charter is 3mb. I also disable my antivirus software while running the test this time but it did not make any difference. Not sure what the problem is here. Thanks for the help.
