Swimmer Posted August 10, 2005 CID Share Posted August 10, 2005 Test Conditions Testing is done in recently constructed wood frame two floor residence. Home has heating/cooling metal ductwork and sheetrock walls throughout. The Access Point (AP) or wireless router is placed on a table away from metal cabinets and RF sources in a corner upper level room for all tests. A set of measurements is then taken at each of the four locations. * Location #1: AP and wireless client in same room, approximately 6 feet apart. * Location #2: Client in room on same level, approximately 30 feet away from AP. Two sheetrock walls between AP and Client. * Location #3: Client in lower level, approximately 40 feet away from AP. One wood floor, no sheetrock ceiling, no walls between AP and Client. * Location #4: Client on same level, approximately 50 feet away from AP. Three interior, one exterior wall between AP and Client. now take a look at this.. http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Reviews-39-ProdID-WRT54G-9.php right around location 4 the signal starts to fall apart.. here is a nice little chart show some of the 802.11g routers that are fairly popular. http://google-zdnet.com.com/D_Link_DI_524_AirPlus_G_router/4505-3319_16-30839580-5.html?tag=top
KingCobra Posted August 10, 2005 CID Share Posted August 10, 2005 I had signal issues with my wireless system until I spent $80 on a couple of directional antennae. You won't know until you try.

Swimmer Posted August 10, 2005 CID Share Posted August 10, 2005 I would try it first and see what happens.. you might be ok with just a stock router.. if not then go pick up the upgrades..
