MttFrog13 Posted August 22, 2005 CID Share Posted August 22, 2005 Is there a way to set up my home network in a way where i can have one gateway hooked up to my computer and then have my spare modem hooked up in another room so i dont have to run a ethernet cable from one end of my hose to the other. amc11890 Posted August 22, 2005 CID Share Posted August 22, 2005 u should consider a wireless network
amc11890 Posted August 22, 2005 CID Share Posted August 22, 2005 first u need to purchase a router, and a wirless adapter and then u wont hsve to deal with wires.....u can have two medems but you would have to have two accounts from ur isp....so it would cost more....but its much more sensible to buy a router and adapter ..... MttFrog13 Posted August 22, 2005 Author CID Share Posted August 22, 2005 ok, i have a wireless gateway, but the signal is very weak so i only get like 1mb when im on my laptop in my room, but the whole 3 when im standing next to it, and also i have a xbox which i need to keep hooked up but i want to be able to use a shorter cable. I'm not about to get that wireless adapter for my xbox since i am about to get the xbox 360 when it comes out anyway. And really, the reason why my wireless connection is so weak is because the antenna is kind of severed and is noticably weaker so does anyone know wehre i can get a replacement antenna for a westel 327w? So really to solve my problem i just need that antenna and untill i get the 360, imma have to keep this 35ft of cord to my xbox.
amc11890 Posted August 22, 2005 CID Share Posted August 22, 2005 I have the same router......i get a pretty good signal from my wirless adapter but i see ur point....i dont think u have to have a certain antenna for that router but the antenna that comes with it is not very good......any antenna will work....purchase a high gain antenna........ amc11890 Posted August 24, 2005 CID Share Posted August 24, 2005 Just purchase a high gain antenna...u could get a range extender but they r costly and have to be specifically made for ur router...not sure where u will find one
