ellison Posted October 31, 2005 CID Share Posted October 31, 2005 Hello to everyone... Ive just upgraded to 1meg bb with ukonline from 512k.The actiontec router current status page says "dsl status speed down/up =1152kbps/288kbps.Does that mean that i am actually recieving these speeds and that any tests download upload tests that i perform that are way lower than this is because of network settings? For example speed tests performed here show this... :.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 191 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Download Speed is:: 23 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Mon Oct 31 2005 19:09:44 GMT+0000 (GMT Standard Time) Bottom Line:: 3X faster than 56K 1MB download in 44.52 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 9.88 % of your hosts average (co.uk) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-96V4FL1W5 Ive also used dan elwells bb speed tester and most ive got on 1 meg bb is about 678kbps.Ive shut down my software firewall and av to see if speed increases but theres not much difference.Im currently using cablenut but most of the settings for imeg dsl is for ppoe wheras im connected with ppoa which is router default (does that make a difference?).Anyway any tips would be appreciated.Im using w98se. tia ellison

ellison Posted November 2, 2005 Author CID Share Posted November 2, 2005 Ive come to the conclusion that my poor download speed is a result of the ISP that im currently with.Ive been with them for a few years from dial up and they were pretty good a few years ago. However from googling online ive found that they are having serious problems and that thier customer support is non existent.Alarmed by this I sought a MAC code from them and indeed ,all the bad reports that ive recently read seem to be true. Its impossible to contact them , and when you do they fob you off.Ive now contacted the parent company , and after having to resort to threats to trading standards , i finally am getting a MAC code.I thought id just mention this as for weeks now ive been messing with this setting and that , and basically its the ISP. Any way thanks van buren for your time and also for links info. ellison
