Sigss Posted December 25, 2005 CID Share Posted December 25, 2005 Is it possible to use cablenut settings with Wireless LAN?? If so can someone help with which one to use? Let me know what information you need. Thanks in advanbce
cdf216 Posted December 25, 2005 CID Share Posted December 25, 2005 Of course it can be used with wireless LAN as it set the settings for your Network adapter. When you tweak for an internet connection with cablenut you're also tweaking your LAN connection. In fact that very first Setting, DefaultReceiveWindow has more to do with your LAN speed than it does the internet speed because it's roughly 10 times the size of GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize and TcpWindowSize which are your RWIN value. Just remember though you overall speed will be limited to either 11Mbps or 54Mbps depending on if you have 802.11a ,b or g. AS for tweaking your overall connection, Just tell me what your advertised Internet speed is UP and Down and i'll get you the right settings. Sigss Posted December 25, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 25, 2005 Suppose to 1.5 down and 512 up, however recently I have been getting anywhere from 800-3mb download and 300-1.9 upload just varies but I guess that is wireless for ya. I really appreciate the response and thanks for your help.
cdf216 Posted December 25, 2005 CID Share Posted December 25, 2005 Try this Cablenut file and see what happens.

Sigss Posted December 25, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 25, 2005 I have downloaded the cablenut file and extracted all files. I then downloaded the speed file and saved to registry then rebooted. I am really not sure if I did something wrong or whats going on. This is what i got, Anyone have any suggestions? :::.. cdf216 Posted December 26, 2005 CID Share Posted December 26, 2005 did you do the speed test before rebooting or after? Settings don't change until after rebooting. something is definitely wrong though. your speeds should have hit at least 1500 kbps. Let's see what a file designed for a faster connection does. Also try doing a traceroute to testmy.net and also pinging it, I think you have a latency problem somewhere.
Blunted 2 Posted December 26, 2005 CID Share Posted December 26, 2005 goto http://www.j79zlr.com/cablenutXP2k.php for win XP and 2000 and goto http://www.j79zlr.com/cablenutME98.php for win 95, 98 and ME if you want to try to tweak it out yourself. it doesnt hurt to try it out and i think thats the best way to learn it by trial and error
cdf216 Posted December 26, 2005 CID Share Posted December 26, 2005 Blunted, I used the j9zlr page to get the settings for him based on his quoted connection speed. That's why i'm confused as to why his speed is so slow, almost seems like a hardware issue. Edit: Oh man I think I just figured out the problem... It was never said what OS he was running 98, ME, or XP. Settings I gave were for XP not sure what would happen if used on a 98 computer. cdf216 Posted December 26, 2005 CID Share Posted December 26, 2005 just open cablenut, click clear settings button, and reboot that will set everything to windows defaults. in the mean time i'm going to test the file I set up for you and see if there is a problem with it on my system. Sigss Posted December 26, 2005 Author CID Share Posted December 26, 2005 Upload now appears to be fine, download running a bit slower than before. Which could be due to it being Wireless. cdf216 Posted December 26, 2005 CID Share Posted December 26, 2005 OK your upload test gave a lot away. you have a syncronus connection.. meaning your upload is the same as your download. try this file: it's for a 5000 down 2000 up connection. then run a speed test.. also remember when doing a download test you can't be uploading anything, and vice versa. cdf216 Posted December 26, 2005 CID Share Posted December 26, 2005 Try one test with the 2992 size file and see what happens. Also I think I figured out the reason for the huge variation in your speeds. It is your wireless, but due to the fact that the bandwidth for the entire area you are in is shared. Meaning if lots of people are downloading in your area, everyone is slowed down. During peak times of the day you may go as slow as dial up, yet during idle times such as very late at night, have almost all the bandwidth available on your the antenna that serves you. You're not capped like a cable modem would be. but rather sharing a set amount of bandwidth with an unknown amount of customers. Basically you're on a giant wireless LAN.
