  1. I'm happy with my dway as it's much faster now (around 950kb/s), but I hate the latency times. But there's nothing that can be done about that, since you can't exceed the speed of light to make the latency times lower.
  2. Exactly, if they open up the gates to give everyone 1.5mb, we could end up seeing more people with 3mb connections. But the latency time will never go down. It's not like they cap the latency times, it's just impossible to go faster than the speed of light. So the 1200+ latency times you see in games will always be there for satellite. But if you like to play online games and are stuck with satellite, do what I do: MMORPG's. You could also keep a dialup connection as a backup for playing games with if you like to play FPS'ers. My old dialup gave me a 170ms latency time during games. It was just only a 16.4k/3k Download/Upload connection. The one thing I'm looking forward to if it actually happens is higher download buckets. Right now I get 350MB, and if they up that to 500MB like they had told me would happen, that would be a lot faster downloads.
  3. well, I talked with dway about it and they told me to just reregister, which helped, got my speeds up to about 750k, and now they're back to around 900k+ again. I also talked to the tech guy about the DW7000, and he told me that they were increasing the download speed to 1.5MB and the upload to 512KB and he also mentioned an increased download bucket. So when they release it, I guess we'll see. Edit: and to team28439, they only advertise the speed of Dway at 500K, so you're actually getting a good connection. Not great, but still good.
  4. I feel your pain man, I just ran this test a few minutes ago: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 139 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 17 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Thu Aug 18 20:44:02 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB download in 60.24 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 17.8 % of your hosts average (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-Y8BDMTXR3 The connection used to be great, but it went down horribly lately. *picks up pitch fork* I'm ready!
  5. For the past week I've been getting HORRIBLE speeds. Here's a test from a month ago: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 950 Kbps about 1 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 116 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Sun Jul 17 18:26:00 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 17X faster than 56K 1MB download in 8.83 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 18.75 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-HOSI7MYEA And here's one I just did: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 139 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 2992 kB) Download Speed is:: 17 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Thu Aug 18 20:44:02 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB download in 60.24 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 17.8 % of your hosts average (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-Y8BDMTXR3 It's been like this all week. And I've tested the connection on 3 different computers, so it's not spyware or a virus. I've scanned all our computers with Adaware and Spybot, as well as using McAfee to scan for viruses just incase. I'm also using VanBurens satellite settings. Is anyone else getting speeds like this lately, or is it just me getting screwed by DW this time?
  6. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 872 Kbps about 0.9 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Download Speed is:: 106 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Sun Jul 3 03:38:10 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 16X faster than 56K 1MB download in 9.66 sec Diagnosis: Looks Great : 7.92 % faster than the average for host (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-R03VS8NA6 FAP period is over, this is what I just tested at. Not bad at all, I just need to get the whole 169MB thing straightend out and get it up to the business package I guess, that should get rid of some problems
  7. Fair Access Policy. It's a little thing (or big thing) that limits your download speed when you download a certain ammount of data within a 4 hour period. The tech I talked to assured me that I would be able to download 350MB before the FAP would take effect and that even if the FAP took effect that my connection wouldn't drop below 50%.
  8. OK, my issue here isn't what type of service I have, it's that the tech told me I would have otherwise. He explained to me that with the consumer edition (not business) I would have 350MB and that the FAP would never take more than 50% of my connection, as well as that I would recieve a DW7000 modem. But I'm gonna call the guy (I have his ext) here soon and see what's going on.
  9. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 87 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Download Speed is:: 11 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server2) Test Time:: Sat Jul 2 07:44:40 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB download in 93.09 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 10.77 % of your hosts average (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-DS5ICKROT At least it's going up a little bit... OK, I'll try to explain what the technician told me better. I had looked it all up online and knew all about the FAP and the difference between the consumer and business editions, and I was planning on getting the business edition so I wouldn't hit the FAP as easily. The tech told me that with the "consumer" edition (the $59.95/mo plan) I would get the 350MB FAP limit, so there was no reason for me to go to the business edition as it wouldn't give me any extra features. I was a little confused about this because of what I had read on the site, and he explained to me that two months back they had updated all the hardware and had put up new satellites so they had upped the FAP limit, and that the website was out of date. He also told me that I would recieve the DW7000 modem because of the new hardware updates instead of the DW6000. Maybe that will help explain why I'm so upset about this and feel cheated, he either outright lied to me or was misinformed. Either way, they're at fault and something should be done about it.
  10. Yes, I know this, but the point is that the technical support agent I talked to told me otherwise. And I do use a program to limit speed when I need to, but I didn't use it because he told me that it wouldn't bring my connection down that slow. So what pisses me off is that for the whole rest of today I'm only going to have a 2-3kB/s connection. So basicly I'm stuck with dialup with even worse latency times
  11. Hey all. I'm a new customer of DirecWay. Before I ordered it, I contacted them and asked a multitude of questions about what I should except, because I didn't want to get it and be really disapointed. But I was lied to. Here's what I mean. I had talked to a technical support agent about the FAP, and he told me that it would be a non-issue for me because they had upped it to 350MB and that even if I hit the FAP, that it would only shave off 50% of my connection max. He also told me that I would get a DW7000 modem, but I got a DW6000, but I guess that's not too much of an issue. Well, yesterday I tested my connection at about 788kb/s, I wish I would have saved a test, but I didn't think about it. I started downloading some stuff because I was excited about the 70-90kB/s download speeds, since I'd been on dialup before this. He assured me of this saying that he had many of his customers that went over the FAP daily. Well, all of a sudden I got FAP'd. I knew because my connection just about completely died. Here's a test I ran: :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 16 Kbps about 0 Mbps (tested with 97 kB) Download Speed is:: 2 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (server1) Test Time:: Sat Jul 2 06:27:37 CDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 0X faster than 56K 1MB download in 512 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 1.98 % of your hosts average (direcpc.com) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-QN7C9T35L I would hardly consider that 50% of my connection!! It's even worse than the dialup I had before! Does everyone get this bad of an FAP? I'm planning on contacting them (...laughs) about this and trying to milk this for all it's worth, because I was flat out lied to about this. Not only did the FAP nearly completely take out my connection, I didn't download NEAR 350MB, was just over the 170MB-ish area, so he lied to me about that too. Just to put it out there: Modem: DW6000 OS: Windows XP SP2 Router: Linksys WRT54G (Connected over Ethernet) Signal Strength: 63
