you will be fine, i own a 5 year old computer and just last year i replaced the original 200watt ps with a 500 watt. As to setting it up ait couldnt be any easier. Any standard psu would work.

lol ur a little behind, but yeah there amazing

A two fan case for $30 and a dual core for $70, what a deal CPU comes with a heatsink and fan. In my limited experience get some arctic sliver 5 thermal paste, it took my cpu from 68 degrees load to 58. (stock 3.0GHz and 1.30 volts)
Nice low voltage on the cpu.
Is that memory dual channel?
Onboard video?
Power supply? ----edit: O the case comes with power too!
Only bought one stick so it wont be dual channel. And yes i am going to use the onboard video until i can afford a new gfx card. The case does come with a ps but dont know how reliable its going to be, have a 500 watt ps just in case. Brisbane cores are known to overclock real well.
yeah i think i made a good decision, way better than my current compaq case.

what is your budget?

Don't forget your heatsink, and heatsink compound. What about a burner? Do you got one already to install? You need some type of disk drive. Also where is your HDD? Did you order one of those yet?
I already have a 16x dvd burner, 120gb hd, and i plan on using the stock hsf.

I'm late too, Happy B-Day.

Seems like a very very good Low Price build.
Whats sad is that everything there besides the ram is better than what I got on my PC.
haha this upgrade was way over due

should get it all by Friday.
came out to about 250 w/shipping, taxes...etc
Would have went with intel but to stay on budget i would have had to go with a crappy mobo.
-
It will only power up for about a sec or two and then shuts down. Maybe it is the power supply failing?
more than likely thats the problem becuase you should atleast be able to get to the bios.

okay narrowed down to two options
this setup:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157107
would use 6600gt
or this setup:

would use onboard video
lol finally going to decide

why do you need a new case and cooling?
you don't currently have a ATX case?
and the intel's run alot cooler so you can use the stock heat sink.
i have an old compaq case that is only suitable for micro atx boards.
-
he doesnt have a 939. and i would not recommend going for old technologically. if your going to go amd go AM2, but the intel is far better in every way
if i do go intel I'm gonna need a cpu, mobo, video card, and ram. Not to mention a new case and cooling. All for under 200$
-
Here is what i have right know
Amd athlon xp 1800 underclocked to 1.1GHz
512 pc 3200 ram
6600gt(AGP)
500 watt ps
pos mobo not even worth mentioning
Basically i will need a new case, cpu, mobo, maybe ram/video card.
this would be the cheapesr route to take

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3001041&Sku=CP2-A64-3800
could use current video card and ram.
-
If i do go intel i would want a mobo with good overclocking abilities because that seems to be where they shine.
-
The bottom line is that no matter what i do, it will be a huge change from what i have now. Just dont know which route to take amd or intel
-
Gonna need a new video card aswell. For around 80bux
-
thinking something like this

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3001041&Sku=CP2-A64-3800
as you can see trying to keep the budget low.

Since I got a job recently i am considering upgrading to a better and mobo. Currently have a athlon xp 1800 and pos mobo. So anything is a improvement. My budget is 200 and i need a decent cpu and mobo.(939 socket so i can use parts from old computer).
On a second thought do you think it would be better to upgrade to a core 2 duo cpu and buy more parts later on when i get the money?
-
It's supposed to be under, performance and quality settings right?
edit:
haha, nvm i figured it out
thx
