  1. Same thing here too. Since last Thanksgiving. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Connection is:: 186 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 1496 kB) Download Speed is:: 23 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (main) Test Time:: Wed May 4 18:36:05 EDT 2005 Bottom Line:: 3X faster than 56K 1MB download in 44.52 sec Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 40.79 % of your hosts average (starband.net) Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-9E45AMUSQ
  2. dmc, sorry to hear your misfortunes. Before doing anything else go to the News Server and to the Starband group. The group is: "starband.general", here you can post your problem and get help from a number of Starband users. If you are unfamiliar with News groups post back and someone will direct you further. Mr Ranger
  3. I have been with Starband for 4 years and I have not seen atmospheric conditions raise the signal like this. I suppose that a group of Starband engineers are standing in a corner somewhere scratching their heads and saying "sure...if you do it like that"..."I wondered what that switch was for". Mr Ranger
  4. Wow! I was surprised to see that mine was up too. I am usually about 8.0 and right now it is at 9.2. I am on GE-4 and am located in Northern Michigan. Mr Ranger
  5. I'm with you Vern. Too bad the three people that SATTECH installed yesterday apparently had not read this forum or had access to Starband.general newsgroup. The Only positive comments I've seen in regards to Starband over the last 5 months have been from those not using it. I'd like it too if I could install three everyday (assuming I get paid) and then could go home and use my cable modem. I would definitely right now gladly choose dial-up service over Starband if I had access to it. For browsing the internet dial-up is actually faster. Newsgroups on Starband is throttled to the point that it is slower than dial-up. The only place that Starband is faster on right now is if I were to download a file over the the web. Since that is seldom done, Starband is not worth the $64.95 a month I am paying. :::.. 6. aSic, "got no problem with the slow speeds".
  7. Webuser, Ok you pulled one over on me, who are you really? Mr Rnager
  8. Hey Webuser, or should I say fellow Starbander. I hope things work out well for you at Starband. I'm curious, what exactly do you get for the $40.00 a month starter plan and how long does it stay at 40? How much did you have to pay for install? The best source for Starband info is at: alt.starband.general on the newserver. Mr Ranger
  9. Jeffery, I don't believe that Starband has plans in the works for a new bird. They can't even afford to stay on the two they are leasing now. Perhaps you are referring to Wildblue? Quote: "You can opt for a cheaper contract with Starband, but I wouldn't want to be locked in so either a 1 year or month-to-month fee of $150-$160 would be perfect for my needs." 1-800-4starband ask for sales Mr Ranger
  10. After completing download test a box appears over information saying:
  11. Jeffery, With firefox was able to test properly. Notice this is well past peak. Speeds right now are throttled. I used to run 3 or 4 times faster. Again, Newsgroups are slower than dial up. 12. Jeffery, listen friend, I have the service, you don't.
  13. Vern and myself are Starband customers and are speaking from personal experience, not heresay.
  14. Not more than two minutes after the above post I went to alt.starband.general and this was the first post I read, it pretty much sums everything up: "is there any truth that starband has acquired another transponder on IA-7? What is the advanced technology that ia7 has that amc4 doesn't? if ia7 is better than amc4 why is starband leaving business users on amc4. if I purchase 48x will they leave me on amc4? will starband be shutting down amc4 at sometime? I have seen many posts that claim that ia7 is getting worst all the time while amc4 was getting better until they started throttling it. is this being done to "encourage" amc4 users to move to ia7? after they get everyone moved to ia7 won't that sat be extremely overcrowded? if so this means that service will never get better and only be degraded further? I know that I'm asking a lot of question, but I am trying to justify staying with starband. I came to starband at the time they rolled out the 360 and I am hesitant to leave but other options are becoming available. thank you for you help. I would discuss this with starband but I am reluctant to believe anything from them at this time. that is if I could ever get them on the phone to pose these very same question. thanks again" I left out the posters ID, but you get the picture.
