Hello all, Been quite a long time since I've posted on here. Hope everyone is doing well! I figured what better place to turn to than the knowledgeable users of testmy.net?! I'm in a networking class and one of our homework problems has me stumped. I understand the general concept of subnetting but I am struggling with this. I get 182.168.0.0 /16 translates to a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 (/16 in CIDR) I also understand we're subnetting the whole third octet but this part confused me as we shouldn't need the WHOLE third octet subnetted if we've only got 3 networks with 5 hosts per? The problem is below. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I have quite a few more similar problems to work through. P.S if this is the wrong section I apologize A router at your main company location is connected to your provider and 3 internal locations. The network address from your provider is 182.168.0.0/16. Each location has a maximum of 5 nodes Assume you are using the entire byte 3 for subnets A. What are the 1st 3 and last 3 possible subnets to the three locations? B. Assume you have decided to use the 1st 3 subnets B1. what are the 1st and last 4 host addresses on each subnet? B2. what is the broadcast address on each subnet? C. What is the new subnet mask?

Been a real long time since I posted here, how's everyone doing? =] I been looking to get a new graphics card for my system I recently built. Pretty much built a gaming computer without a graphics card (as I ran out of $$$) Haven't really kept up with the current hardware and wasn't sure which manufacturer to go with. NVIDIA / ATI ?! Not looking to spend too much, probably 150ish maybe 200 if I have to. Thanks in advance for the help !
-
Yeah it was definitely a great feeling having it boot up and realize everything is working properly. thanks a lot, guys.
-
Update: Got all of my parts except for the new graphics card I want ( saving up some more money) Everything is running extremely well and I couldn't be more happy
-
yeah that's what I'm gonna go with, 2x (4 gig). I wasn't even aware that the forums changed recently as this topic was my first post in months. I like the new look, though!
-
yeah I've been a neurotic lately trying to figure out what I want to do with this build. and thanks man I've been away from TMN for a while now, it's about time I come back. It seems like there aren't as many users on as there used to be, are the boards starting to slow down?
-
I plan on going past 8 gigs eventually so I figure I'll plan ahead by getting the 4 gig sticks so when I do want to go to 12 or even 16 i'll have the spare slots on my MOBO. As for now, I plan on getting the parts listed above in my links and running that for a week or two before I get some more cash. I'll then buy another 4 gig stick and an improved PSU. But for now I'm gonna run the 1 4 gig stick and get everything settled.
-
I was thinking about just getting two of those 4 gig sticks, how do you think that would work? also will this psu work with everything for the time being? Edit: last link didnt work http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152028 that's the one I have.

Hello everyone, haven't been on here in a while but I figured I'd post here as I trust the opinions of the TMN members. I'm building a new computer, I already have the case and powersupply. The case is an ATX Rosewill coolermaster and the PSU is a 530 watt (should handle my pc for now). I'm going to order the rest of the parts I need tonight and I wanted to see what you guys thought about the parts I chose. I'll provide the links below. Thanks a lot! MOBO : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131646 CPU : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727 MEM : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139046 there's what I plan on ordering for now. As stated above I already have a case, PSU, HDD, and a dvd-rom drive until I decide to upgrade the rest of it.

wellll my 6 year old HP is getting a little sluggish and I figure I'll finally take the leap and upgrade. I'm planning on building a pretty powerful system that can handle anything I want to do with it. So far I have the case the mobo and the processor. Any thoughts or suggestions on the parts I've selected already and parts I should select when I advance and buy more pieces? case : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146026 combo deal with mobo and CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.404661 thanks a lot in advance

nah this is just my desktop, I've updated my bios but I cant find drivers for my MOBO. bleh this sucks haha.
-
7? if you mean windows 7 then nah I'm on XP and yeah ive tried getting drivers but i cant find anything relevant.
-
nah its not that, I have two different hub's and neither of them are working at 2.0 speeds thanks tho.
-
I'm not sure when this started happening but lately my usb 2.0 ports aren't working as fast as they should be. When I try to sync my iphone it literally takes hours for me to get all of my music on the phone, and it never took that long. I frequently get a pop up notification when i plug the phone in saying "the ports aren't working as fast as they should be 2.0 isnt working" or something to that effect. any help would be greatly appreciated. - Ryan

I ended up buying two pairs of http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?item_id=112885 quite happy with the purchase. Install was easy, but required some extra drilling because the guy at best buy was an idiot -.-
