  1. Hello all,

Been quite a long time since I've posted on here. Hope everyone is doing well! I figured what better place to turn to than the knowledgeable users of testmy.net?!

I'm in a networking class and one of our homework problems has me stumped. I understand the general concept of subnetting but I am struggling with this.

I get 182.168.0.0 /16 translates to a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 (/16 in CIDR) I also understand we're subnetting the whole third octet but this part confused me as  we shouldn't need the WHOLE third octet subnetted if we've only got 3 networks with 5 hosts per?  The problem is below. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I have quite a few more similar problems to work through. P.S if this is the wrong section I apologize :)

A router at your main company location is connected to your provider and 3 internal locations. The network address from your provider is 182.168.0.0/16. Each location has a maximum of 5 nodes

Assume you are using the entire byte 3 for subnets

    A. What are the 1st 3 and last 3 possible subnets to the three locations?
    B. Assume you have decided to use the 1
    st 3 subnets
    B1. what are the 1
st and last 4 host addresses on each subnet?
B2. what is the broadcast address on each subnet?
    C. What is the new subnet mask?

  2. Been a real long time since I posted here, how's everyone doing? =] I been looking to get a new graphics card for my system I recently built. Pretty much built a gaming computer without a graphics card (as I ran out of $$$) Haven't really kept up with the current hardware and wasn't sure which manufacturer to go with. NVIDIA / ATI ?! Not looking to spend too much, probably 150ish maybe 200 if I have to.

Thanks in advance for the help !

  3. 1. Nice PC setup. I would go with 2 4Gig sticks as Dual-Channel = Pro. (Even my Celeron D 4.0 Ghz, with DDRII 533mhz Dual Channel runs fast. :) )

    2. You have to remember that a LOT of the forums changed in a SHORT time.

    Thanks,

    EBrown

yeah that's what I'm gonna go with, 2x (4 gig). I wasn't even aware that the forums changed recently as this topic was my first post in months. I like the new look, though! :D

  4. Sounds as if you have a game plan :)

BTW , nice to hear from you man !

yeah I've been a neurotic lately trying to figure out what I want to do with this build.

and thanks man :) I've been away from TMN for a while now, it's about time I come back. It seems like there aren't as many users on as there used to be, are the boards starting to slow down?

  5. I agree , try and run dual channel. There's some that claim 4 / 2 gig dimms will out perform 2 / 4 gig but that all depends on the bus speed as well as other motherboard qualities. Just make sure to keep it as cool as possible and your golden , but you knew that already :)

I plan on going past 8 gigs eventually so I figure I'll plan ahead by getting the 4 gig sticks so when I do want to go to 12 or even 16 i'll have the spare slots on my MOBO. As for now, I plan on getting the parts listed above in my links and running that for a week or two before I get some more cash. I'll then buy another 4 gig stick and an improved PSU. But for now I'm gonna run the 1 4 gig stick and get everything settled. :)

  6. The motherboard is good. The CPU is good. But get more ram. Go with 8 GB. You also need to get more then 1 DIMM so you can get at least dual-channel support.

I was thinking about just getting two of those 4 gig sticks, how do you think that would work?

also will this psu work with everything for the time being?

    Edit: last link didnt work

    that's the one I have.

  7. Hello everyone, haven't been on here in a while but I figured I'd post here as I trust the opinions of the TMN members. I'm building a new computer, I already have the case and powersupply. The case is an ATX Rosewill coolermaster and the PSU is a 530 watt (should handle my pc for now). I'm going to order the rest of the parts I need tonight and I wanted to see what you guys thought about the parts I chose. I'll provide the links below. Thanks a lot!

    MOBO : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131646

    CPU : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727

    MEM : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139046

there's what I plan on ordering for now. As stated above I already have a case, PSU, HDD, and a dvd-rom drive until I decide to upgrade the rest of it.

  8. wellll my 6 year old HP is getting a little sluggish and I figure I'll finally take the leap and upgrade. I'm planning on building a pretty powerful system that can handle anything I want to do with it. So far I have the case the mobo and the processor. Any thoughts or suggestions on the parts I've selected already and parts I should select when I advance and buy more pieces?

thanks a lot in advance :D

  9. I'm not sure when this started happening but lately my usb 2.0 ports aren't working as fast as they should be. When I try to sync my iphone it literally takes hours for me to get all of my music on the phone, and it never took that long. I frequently get a pop up notification when i plug the phone in saying "the ports aren't working as fast as they should be 2.0 isnt working" or something to that effect.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

  10. thinking about just getting some new speakers, since that's mainly my problem. I figure there's no sense in spending ridiculous amounts of money on a stereo system when I don't really care that much about KICKING bass. I just like a nice crisp sounding system.

speakers first, possibly deck later on down the road.

Thanks for the help guys :)  :knuppel2:

  11. I think i'm on the same package, or one similar.

    it's actually really nice.

  12. I'm looking to buy a new stereo system for my car, and I'm not too sure what I need to buy in order to have a decently kicking system. I'm only looking to spend about $300 max. I need the radio itself (cd changer/ deck whatever you wanna call it) 2-4 speakers, depending on whether or not I should replace my back speakers too, and possibly a sub?

Anyone know stuff about car audio? suggestions? It'd be appreciated if you could pick me out a system from bestbuy.com or newegg.com.

    thanks a lot in advance!

  13. It's a Love hate relationship. It's good that I worry so much because it keeps me out of trouble. I guess it's more so knowing Right from Wrong than worrying. I'm the one among the group of friends that keeps them out of trouble and holds them back if they're about to do something stupid.

  14. I gave the box and everything with the phone as I wanted the buyer to be fully satisfied that it is an authentic iphone 3g and not a fake imposter. I also figured it would insure I'm the original owner if I provide the box.

He hasn't emailed me back, I'm hoping it's over and he doesn't bother me anymore. As for posting my information anywhere, I don't think he has because no new google results have popped up when I search my info. I'm a nervous kid by nature and I worry about everything. I'll probably worry about this for the next few weeks. People are terrible :/

  15. he claims he told me there was dirt over the water indicator and when he got home he cleared it off and saw water damage. He never said anything about dirt, he inspected it, paid me, and we left. Now he emails me saying My information is going to be all over the internet with a "fraud" warning. I told him I'm sorry he feels I wronged him in some way but I sold him a working phone at a comparably cheap price. He owns the site XXXXXXXX>XXXX and since he has my phone number and the knowledge of phones I'm affraid he can do something. I'm considering changing my number.  just my luck, things can never just go smoothly. ugh.

  16. yeah.. I mean the only way for the phone to have damage is for it to be submerged in water and I've never had that happen. The guy has my phone number and my full name but that's about it. I wont have a phone until friday when the new iphone comes out, but if he calls after then I'll explain the phone had no damage upon the sale and I can not refund his money.

can never be a nice easy sale. gahh.
